LESSON
1. (Homework) Draw a clue to a murder scene i.e. a ransom note or a glass
with finger prints on it.
2. Study the work of Caravaggio, particularly his bloodthirsty scenes.
Note his use of expression on people's faces and the pose of
their bodies,
his ability to tell a story in one scene,
and his use of chiaroscuro ( light
/ dark ), harsh lighting and darkened shadows.
Here is Caravaggio's "Judith Beheading Holofernes". For a closer
look go to CGFA site.
3. Now with friends, pose for each other in 'murder scenes' and take it
in turns to make drawn studies of what you see.
4. Now develop your studies into a dramatic painting,
with a darkened background and a strong light source,
as Caravaggio has done.
Be sure to included your 'murder clue' , hidden, some
where in your painting.
