LESSON
These prints were made by taking a polystyrene tile and then
drawing on to it with a ball point pen.
Where the pen pushes the tile down that area will print
white.
The tile is printed in the same way as a lino cut, water based
ink was rolled over the tile,
only this time coloured tissues paper, which has had glue put on
one surface, is also placed on the tile.
Paper is placed on the inked surface and a print taken by rubbing
on the back of the paper with a spoon.
Remember: The tissue paper must have
the glue side facing upwards to stick to the paper, not the tile.
This technique is called CHINE COLLE.
The ideas for the prints were based on a study of the 1960's OP
ART movement.
OP ART used abstract means to produce 'optical' effects of
movement in the eye.
Homework: Find out what you can about the OP Artist BRIDGET RILEY
and how she influence the 1960's fashion designers, like MARY QUANT.
Then design your own clothes using OP ART patterns.
