CD Review by "Slick" Nick Smith, www.pastepunk.com PINTSIZE - Drink 'til You Want Us (Self Released) "Ska pop UK trio PINTSIZE really know how to pen a good tune, that much is true from the off. Playful war satire 'War's Not Over' kicks off this five track EP with some creepy pedal effects before a full-blown onslaught of riveting ska pop bounce explodes from the stereo, complete with some slack-jawed vocals and witty rhyming to boot. 'Winning It Back Again' contains a whale-sized hook within a chorus that simply won't leave your head for days. It's all ska without a trumpet in sight, which I wouldn't buy of course, but perhaps it's a good thing. You see, when the power punk chorus of 'Margarita' kicks in, it doesn't sound too great, a far cry from the overall sound of 'Drink 'til You Want Us'. To finish, we have 'Copnor', an ode to the very first rock 'n' roll that came out of the states during the fifties, something you won't ever find me complaining about. Ever. This CD is also enhanced with stuff you can access when you stick it a PC. Since mine can barely handle a hectic session of 'Solitaire', I couldn't experience these added perks, but they deserve an honorable mention none the less. This EP is a treat to pass the time with and never outstays its welcome, although I think the vocalist could improve the songs a lot - by not singing again. Ever. So if tongue-in-cheek skank vibes are your thing, 'Drink 'til You Want Us' remains highly recommendable."

'Live Review ', Pugwash Issue 3, January 2001, p41: "First Band Pint Size (sic) are a prime example of why there are too many punk bands in Portsmouth at the moment. The tunes aren't bad, but they're hardly original songs I've ever heard, and the nasal vocals serve only to irritate, not to entertain."

Although this is nothing to do with us (It's about those punk rock gods Snuff), I had to put this on our site. I hope, when all is said and done, and I am but dust in the wind, they will say that Pintsize were really happy and honorable... Those Japanese have a way with words. Fortunately
we are alive in the time when this band and we can be together. Thank you Pizza of Death Records. |
