THIS IS A ONE DAY ONLY 'OPEN' PAIRS COMPETITION OF 64 PAIRS, REPLACING THE 'OPEN' SINGLES COMPETITION.

MARY WEBB SCHOOL YOUNG BOWLERS CLASS 2008

After attending coaching sessions from the Pontesbury Bowling Club Senior members suitably assisted by Ben Talbot and Anthony Price, who bowl with the County Youth Squad,the pupils from the Mary Webb School competed in a knock-out event at the New Green.

It was very encouraging to see how well the young bowlers have learned to play the game, we now have a reasonable standard of play.

The semi-finalists were Alex Bromley versus James Reader -- Becky Kidd versus Peter Goosay.

In a very good final James Reader and Becky Kidd had an extremely good battle with James winning 21 -- 20.

James now holds the Shield for one year. All prizes were presented by the Club President Mr. Emlyn Jones. The winner also received a plaque and book token, as did the runner up and semi-finalists. All of the pupils who took park were presented with a certificate.

We have to congratulate one of our Pontesbury junior Bowlers. On Saturday, 3rd May 2008. . .        . 13 year old Ben McCormick was listed as a reserve for the Tanners Youth Inter-league Match at Old Shrewsbury Green.  It was a nice surprise to be told he would be playing at number 6. but from the start Ben did not get the weight on this big green and he was trailing 12 -- 0 down.

Suddenly Ben got the Jack and shortened the length, he was still 15 -- 4 down, after that he stormed through to win 21 -- 17. There was an even bigger boost in the clubhouse to be presented with his Inter-league Badge and voted the "Man of the Match" Congratulations again Ben.
