A series of books that stretches throughout time beginning in the 4th Century BC it leads through to the far distant future when the world falls on its axis and the survivors are living in the end times. Each of the books fall into the Stones of Power series as they all contain Sipstassi (stones from the sky.)
Chronologically speaking the books need to be read in this order :-
Lion of Macedon
Dark Prince
Ghost King
Last Sword of Power
Wolf in Shadow
The Last Guardian
Bloodstone
The Lion of Macedon books are centred around the rise and fall of Alexander the Great with Parmenion, the General, taking central stage and the books following his campaigns until he fathers Alexander as opposed to Philip II of Macedon. Which is where Dark Prince takes over and Alexander is taken into a parallel world where he is hunted by all manner of creatures that gave rise to mythology. A fascinating couple of books taking you into a world that should have been. The immortals from Le Ferragh (of the mist ) that appear are Aristotle (Merlin in the Authurian tales) who appears as a magus to aid Parmenion in his destiny to protect Alexander and a brief mention to Pendarric in Dark Prince when it explains how he helped Aristotle from going mad at the longtivity of his life.
Ghost King and Last Sword of Power charts the battle of the Britains against the invaders. Giving a whole new twist to the Arthurian tales. It is also in these two books that we truly learn the cantankerous side of Aristotle as he meddles with the way things are in Last Sword of Power in order to attempt to regain his soul. Here we also meet Pendarric aiding Uther in Ghost King regain his fathers sword and again aiding Gawain in Last Sword of Power. The other immortals are Culain who was once high king of Britain and Gorien, the Witch Queen.
Finally we reach the Shannow trilogy which moves backwards and forwards throughout time. In all three novels the main part of it takes place in the future where the world has toppled on its axis and the survivors are in the end times. Their current state of technology extends to what can best be equated to the Old West where guns are available. Here the central character not only saves his own world from the Hellborn but also saves it from Pendarric's legions thus causing the first fall of the world (the great flood as described in the bible) The third book in this trilogy sees Shannow battling with the Bloodstone a Sarento from an alternate reality who took the power of the Motherstone into his body in order to heal himself.
Although Shannow has his own place in many fans hearts as an individual creation in his own right, he has to be listed here as well, due to the Sipstrassi (The stones of power) that had been rediscovered after the fall of the world.
Well put together, brilliantly twisted to fit together and for me the whole series has brought many hours of reading pleasure. I also love the way that you seem to notice new things each time you read them and piece new material together for future novels in the series.
The character lists may include some spoilers so please be aware of this.
