Here's the rationale for the design:
1. The toe-box, the frontmost part of the shoe, is squared off (not rounded). If you look closely at the line your toes form, it's straight not curved.
2. The pivot point allows your foot to easily turn when you're on your forefoot (front part of your feet, the ball-like part of the foot).
3. Rounded (curved surface) lateral (side) edges of the shoe gives more mobility. The outrigger (checkered one; pointed to by the line) helps you sense when you're stepping on the very edge of your feet so that you won't go any further. The medial side (medial sides of your shoes face each other) of the shoe is straight-edged for stability.
4. X-shaped patterns to bite the ground with; more traction, less slippage. The outsole is composed of carbon rubber.
5. Plastic midfoot (middle part of foot) support structure; so that your forefoot and rearfoot will work as one, because if they won't and your feet aren't that strong, you'll get a foot injury.
6. Rearfoot (rear part, heel area) have herringbone pattern (zigzag) for traction.
7. A separated part of the rearfoot part allows for softer landing (try to imagine when you hit the ground with your heel; not your forefoot!).
8. Toeguard protects your toes when the shoe hits a hard object; the lateral part of the toeguard gives more protection because it is more vulnerable at that area.
9. One part of the cushioning is the Phylon foam.
10. Another is the air unit, much like how tires work for the automobiles.
11. Side guard helps prevent your foot from getting to the edges (away from the footbed) when you land sideways.
12. Plastic support structure which is complemented by the Side Guard (no 11.) guards the middle part of the foot. The stripes are slits for better venting. The loop holes for the laces are finger-like for firmer "hug" on the foot.
13. Shox unit (rubber cushioning similar to F1 race cars) gives heel protection and gives spring-like effect.
14. Heel counter prevents foot from sliding backwards.
15. The rear part of the shoe's upper is a soft plastic with rib like design to support the ankles.
16. The heel pull tab helps your foot get on and off the shoe easily.
17. The shoe has an integragted tongue, but thicker one which works much like a cloth-likeshoe within the outer part of the shoe to coddle the feet better.
18. The front part of the shoe will be composed of synthetic leather and mesh.
