PHALAENOPSIS
Tropical beauties from areas like the Philippines where the species were first discovered. The white flowers up in the trees looked like moths in flight, leading to the generic name meaning “moth like”. Almost all plants offered are complex hybrids, the result of over 100 years of hybridisation.

WATERINGWater every 7 to 14 days depending on the moisture content of the compost. Give a good soaking from the top.
FEEDINGUse fertiliser e.g. Phostrogen at quarter to half strength.
FLOWERSLong lasting. When most flowers have died cut spike two nodes from the bottom flower. Cut half inch above node – approximately 70% of plants will produce another branch spike in approximately 3 months.
