Wing Chun Kung Fu
Nino Bernardo was born in Hong
Kong in 1946. He was educated in Macao and Hong Kong, finishing school in 1967.
In 1968 Nino left Hong Kong to become a sailor and sailed around the world on a
schooner until finally returning to Hong Kong. Years later he left Hong Kong,
learnt to play guitar and just 'Bummed around a lot'. Nino considers being
called lazy a compliment!
Nino is a professional musician, singer, comedian and speaks many languages;
including Cantonese.
He got shown Wing Chun and began practising it about the age of 20. He got
accepted by Sifu Wong Shun Leung who was trained by the late grandmaster Yip Man
and one of his students was combat celebrity Bruce Lee.
Wong Shun Leung has taught many students, however Wong only spoke Cantonese and
because of Nino's language skills he had a unique insight into Wongs teachings.
Wing Chun is not just a system of fighting it is also a system of thought and if
you do not understand the language how can you understand the concepts?
He admires the Wing Chun system. A system which has lived with him, or him with
it, for over 20 years. Years which have not stopped him from being totally
fascinated by it to this day.
Nino attributes the system to having helped him accomplish all the crazy
eccentric experiences and goals of his life. In search of the 'Oh, Shit'
experience (the re-discovering of our instincts to be able to deal with life's
problems in intense situations) or what he calls 'Brain Pushups'.
Nino strongly believes that the Wing Chun system targets the right (in priority)
AND the left sides of the brain to promote good clean functioning of the body.
It travels through every aspect, from every physical, physiological, biological
and emotional forms of life.

Nino has completed the entire Wing Chun system under one teacher, Sifu Wong Shun
Leung who was a student of Yip man and the foremost instructor of martial art
legend Bruce Lee.
