Real Gate (Sat) 0 - 5 Real Gate (Sun)

It was a match that saw the Saturday league open aged team come up against the Sunday league open aged team.

The Sunday team were made up of former St. Helens Town players and were much older...average age probably being around the 28-29 mark meaning they are at the peak of their careers.

Gate (Sat) lined up with Schonewille in net; Andy Kenny, Chris Hill, Kes and Gaz Anders across the back; Martin Hudson (who passed a late fitness test), Matty Pape, Jason Chilton and Lee Barrow in the midfield; and Paul Barrow joined Dan Oakes up front after Ant had pulled out due to illness.

Gate (Sun) started the brighter...their aggressive play catching Gate (Sat) on the back foot and it wasn't long before they took the lead. The left winger cut inside before firing a shot towards the near post that was spinning off the greasy astro-turf pitch, the shot came back off the post but span all the way across the goal before eventually going in at the other post.

Paul Barrow, who had also passed a late fitness test went off injured. This saw Gate (Sat) line up with Martin's on both wings and Lee Barrow pushed up front.

Gate (Sat) conceded a penalty mid way through the first half, when Schonewille was adjudged to have brought down the large moody striker in a big collision to which the striker responded with "You dirty f***ing b**tard". Schonewille wasn't bothered as he got up and saved the penalty easily. Justice for the Gate (Sat).

Half time came and the score was just 1-0. The half time change saw Jeff Voller come on for Schonewille.

The second half saw Gate (Sat) tire towards the end as Gate (Sun) hit them with some breakaway goals and on own goal from Kes as he nodded the ball over Voller.

The final score was 5-0 but the match was much closer than that. Chris Hill had a superb game at the back, as did Kes. The strikers worked hard to close down the opposition, whilst the Gate (Sun) team tried to bring down Lee Barrow at every opportunity they got.
