One dark and stormy night...

Around October 2004 Alan Snook decided to start the Royal Enfield Wiltshire Owners Club.

With enquiries made by the local dealer Swindon Classic Bikes, Alan was able to judge the level of interest in starting a club.

I remember receiving a telephone call from Alan one evening; he sounded very timid (I know it is hard to believe) and asked me if I was interested in joining. It was such a thrill to hear from another Royal Enfield enthusiast especially someone who was willing to sponsor a club.

We agreed to meet one night during the week.

I waited anxiously just in case Alan missed my remote house and as I waited I heard the distinctive thump of his 350 Bullet testing the purchase of fillings in the heads of anyone within 100 yards.

I had heard what I thought were Royal Enfield's thump past my house before and it was such a thrill to have one stop at my house.

After a mug of tea and a packet of biscuits it was agreed that I would join the club and in November 2004 we held our first meeting. Twelve people turned up and we all got on famously, from then on we regularly had twelve people attending the meetings and around seven for each run at the weekends, even in the foul weather.

We must either be mad or proper rufty tufty bikers....
