City of Turku
Turku
is situated on the south western coast of Finland, approximately 200 km west of
Helsinki. The city of Turku was founded in medieval times and is now one of the
most important cultural areas in Finland. Several of Finland's most important
buildings and sites are situated in Turku. At the same time, the town has a
large percentage of young people due to the three universities in the city,.
This has resulted in good possibilities for recreation and sports.
For
those who have access to the Internet, the following web page can be a helpful
starting point for finding out more about Turku and the surrounding area:

Travel to
Turku
Plane: Turku has a small international airport that operates daily flights to and from Stockholm and Helsinki. There is also an hourly bus service to Turku from Helsinki-Vantaa airport.
Ferry: There are ferries directly to Turku from Stockholm and Germany. The cheapest ferry from Germany goes to Hanko (Hangö), about 150 km from Turku. From here you can take the train or the bus to Turku (change trains in Karis). From Helsinki, there are excellent bus and train connections to Turku.
Transport to the camp from Turku airport, harbour, train
station or bus station will be organised if you let us know when to pick you up!
Car:
Highway number 1 leads from Helsinki to Turku. In Turku, you can follow the map
that will be enclosed in the info letter that will be sent in spring 2004.
