22/2/2003 - brunei welcome ronan in style!

4:07pm GMT

After the recent 'Meet And Greet' session where fans had a chance to ask Ronan questions, Brunei fans were treated to something very special...his gig!  Here's a brief review of the event!

Even before Ronan got on stage, were the fans calling his name (just look at their T-shirts with his name)!!!  The startup of the show was performed by Brunei's Hans Anuar...but after that the part where the show got off the ground, Ronan emerged on stage with a white shirt and ready to belt out his fabulous tunes to all his fans!!!

The fans were of constant support...they sung along with Ronan's big ballads, 'The Way You Make Me Feel' and 'If Tomorrow Never Comes', and getting in the dance mood with those great hits, 'Life Is A Rollercoaster', 'Lovin' Each Day' and of course, 'I Love It When We Do'!!

Few highlights that caught the fans' eyes included 'When You Say Nothing At All' and 'Someday We'll Know' (a song from the film, 'A Walk To Remember'.  And of course not forgetting tunes like, 'We've Got Tonight' where Janet Ramus, Ronan's backings joined in with the tune... and Van Morrison's classic, 'Brown Eyed Girl', a popular live tune!

Did Ronan forget his musical past?  No!  He even threw in two classic Boyxone tunes, 'Picture Of You' and 'Baby Can I Hold You'!  Where will you hear that?  Eh?!  And when the fans thought it was all over...Ronan emerged with the final and most appropriate tune, 'The Long Goodbye'.

Two hours of great performance?  What else can we question about this?  The answer is...nothing!

Ronan has now completed the Destination '03 Tour in Asia and the next place is for the UK fans!  So for all the details of the UK tour plus how to book tickets in the extreme late moment, check out Tour & Appearances page now!

21/2/2003 - getting whoopee and red!

6:53pm GMT

Have you seen the Walkers Crisps advert on TV lately (UK viewers)?  Well you may have noticed Ronan in the advert!  The 'stars-and-their-farts' advert stars Gary Lineker (pictured) who tries his best to steal the packet of Walkers Crisps but the stars 'blow a raspberry' and keep him away!!!  The adverts promote Walker's new Baked Bean flavoured crisps for Comic Relief as part of their £1 million campaign.  Other celebrities taking part include Zoë Ball, Liam Neeson, Frank Skinner, Sarah Lancashire and Ian Wright!

Red Nose Day is on 14th March 2003 and you can find out more about this big charity event by clicking here - come on!  Help support the campaign by doing your bit and buy a packet of crisps!

...and by the way, the celebrities are not actually 'blowing off'!  They are sitting on a whoopee cushion which makes the sound effect (don't tell Gary about it)!

17/2/2003 - going solo in malaysia!

6:30pm GMT

Ronan greeted fans in Malaysia when he performed live in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia last Saturday (15th February)!   Just before the show, Ronan told reporters about being given the opportunity to perform live in front of audiences in Malaysia and for the first time, with his band: "I’ve come here once or twice a year for the last eight years and I must say it’s a great country and the way the people treat you is just unbelievable. It just makes you want to come back, even though it’s a 13-hour flight away".

Ronan also told reporters how being solo was able to make him take control of what he really wanted to do: "I think I am doing better as a solo than I had with Boyzone, but I won’t deny anything about the group that has made me who I am.  I’d finally arrived musically as a person after a long 10 years, and that’s what Destination, is all about".

On the night, Ronan performed what he does best, all the hits including the tunes from his latest album, 'Destination'!  And of course, not forgetting the best tunes that the fans all really loved to hear, 'Life Is A Rollercoaster' and 'When You Say Nothing At All' from his debut album!

Asia fans can get more excited as Ronan will be releasing a special Asia tour edition of his album, 'Destination'!  But overall, the show was once again a huge success!

7/2/2003 - ronan wants steam off idol status

6:50pm GMT

Ronan has made girls and women scream loud when he performs on stage, but it looks like Ronan wants to move away from the pop idol status he has been known as since moving away from Boyzone.  Speaking to an Asia newspaper in preparation for his show in Singapore, Ronan clearly made a point about celebrity status: 'I really don't like the celebrity thing. I've left the whole pop idol scene, I'm no longer interested in being No. 1."

He talked about family life and how he deals with group of fans that he constantly gets from gigs: "I wanted to be a young father, to be young with my kids.  The best way to handle groupies is to be respectful and try to sign their autographs.  I've got no problems staying faithful. When you see my wife, you'd know."

Ronan looked at the future and was seeing what he would do if people were no longer interested in his music: "I may want to start writing songs for other people,' he muses.  I'm a worrier and I think those days worrying about my albums charting are over."

We personally think that it is too early for such thing to happen!!  He only started to go solo for real in 2000 and has had hits including three number 1 singles!  Finally, Ronan never forgets the advice his mother told him: "Be nice to everybody on your way up, 'cos you meet everybody on your way down."

4/2/2003 - asia tour goes with a bang!

6:30pm GMT

Ronan is progressing along the Destination '03 Tour and is currently having a break.  He'll be continuing his tour in Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, The Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei and China.  But how was one of the gigs like?  Here's what it was like at the beginning of his tour when he visited Bahrain on 30th January 2003 (source adapted from Gulf Daily News).

The show in Bahrain was according to the organisers a huge success!  A crowd of 2000 screaming fans came along to see Ronan perform his tunes from the hugely successful album, Destination.  He performed all the hit singles, If Tomorrow Never Comes, I Love It When We Do, Life Is A Rollercoaster and the new tune, The Long Goodbye (to be released around March this year).  Ronan had supporting acts with him including Bahrain's Radio DJs Ahmed Al Sayed Sami the Wami and Krazy Kevin.

Ronan also visited other countries in the Middle East including Oman and United Arab Emirates.  You can see the remaining tour dates including the UK tour dates on our Tour & Appearances page.

Also, is there anyone in Asia who will has gone to that Bahrain show or any show so far or will go to any Ronan gigs?  We would like to hear from you!  Send us a review of what you thought of the shows!  Click here to open our Contact page and send us your review.  It would be helpful if you put a title in your e-mail like 'Destination '02 Asia Tour Review' just to make things easier for us - thank you!!!
