30/11/2003 - about ronan's live session!

6:18pm GMT

Last Friday (21st November), Ronan performed an exclusive live session for BBC's Children In Need at the Maida Vale Studios, London, UK during Ken Bruce's (pictured) morning show.  But just in case you missed what happened during the session, here's a brief review just for you!  Ronan was introduced by Ken Bruce and the excitement was clearly shown in the first minutes of the session:

"Morning, Ken, how's it going?" Ronan began.
"I'm fine, how are you?" was the reply by Ken.
"Very good, thanks."
"Good man, good man.  Thanks for doing this for Children In Need"
"No, have fun, fun"
Then Ken was making sure that Ronan was really prepared for the session: "You're doing a fine job for us today, I hope!"
"Hope?" Ronan questioned humorously!
Then Ken did his sound check: "You're in a good voice, have you?"
"We'll find out in an hour!"
"You've tested it [the voice] already, have you?"
"Yeah, didn't sleep.  We've been here all night!" joked Ronan.
"Quite right to be serious about this job!"
"Of course!" was the firm answer from Ronan!

Then the first request was for 'Life Is A Rollercoaster' from several people, "It will wake us all up!" Ronan replied!  After the performance, there was a round of applause and Ronan was to perform more requests later: "And you'll come back later and sing something else?" Ken questioned.  "Yeah, I'll be here all day!" said Ronan.

Later in the show, Ken told Ronan that people wanted him to sing 'This Is Your Song' and then Ronan hinted that this song is in fact the next single: "Brilliant, definitely. In fact, it's the next single...it'll be out in February."  "Great, we'll be looking forward to that!" Ken commented.  Ronan performed the tune before swiftly moving on to the next request, 'When You Say Nothing At All'.  After that just before Ronan was to perform, 'Turn It On Again', Ken asked about that fact that Ronan wrote this song with Ricky Ross, Ronan said: "Ricky and I wrote that song 5 or 6 months ago in Dublin.  It was great.  A great guy to work with."  Next, Ronan was asked about the material on the album, 'Turn It On': "Yeah, I spent the last 5 or 6 months writing it in Dublin.  Er, it's out this week [at that time] and it's my third solo album.  Very exciting for me you know.  I wrote most of the album myself.  It's quite a personal album but I think I've finally given the fans a piece of me.  Hope they enjoy it as much as I want them to."  Then Ken asked that it was important to speak for himself [Ronan] in this album and put him where he's moving: "Yeah, I've always been writing songs but I guess more than ever, I'm writing for more people too.  I'm enjoying writing for myself and it's fun."   Ronan than performed 'Turn It On Again' and finished off with the classic, 'Lovin' Each Day'.  The performances were excellent and it was fun to see that all this done for charity - well done Ronan!!!  You can hear clips and more by visiting the BBC Radio 2 website by clicking here.

Also, in the evening, Ronan performed live on BBC's Children In Need TV show (live on BBC1 (UK)) and performed the excellent new tune, 'Turn It On'.  We've got a couple of good shots of his performance below.

28/11/2003 - ronan just loves his apple!

7:14pm GMT

Last night, Ronan was present at the Virgin Megastore in Oxford Street, London, UK to launch computer giant, Apple's iPod Advent campaign.  The store itself will play 28 days of non repeated music on an iPod device right until Christmas Eve.  The iPod is an amazing music device which can store thousands of music tunes all in one place!  Apple computers spoke about this campaign: "Self-confessed Apple addict Keating kicked off Christmas festivities four days earlier than the Advent Calendar traditionally starts as a tribute to this year's biggest new star on the music scene – Apple's iPod".  Ronan said about how great the iPod device really is: "My iPod has become my travelling companion – it goes with me absolutely everywhere. The title of my new album, Turn It On is the perfect song to start iPod Advent."

The event doesn't stop there, music magazine, NME have launched it's own iPod online Advent Calendar which features celebrities saying famous quotes from 2003.  The editor of NME, Conor McNicholas described the features of the iPod: "You can fit about 1,000 albums on the top iPod, so this year we're asking visitors to the calendar to pick the best from NME's '1000 albums you must own'. They'll have the chance to win an iPod every week leading up to Christmas!"

The general manager of Apple UK, Mark Rogers said the benefits of the iPod and described why this cool device should be anyone's pocket: "iPod has been a huge success for Apple, with over a million people now owning one. There’s a diverse following for iPod from nearly everyone in the music industry, and "iPod Advent" is about the celebration of this music. iPod appeals to everyone, whatever your taste – from Ronan Keating fans to the readers of NME."

25/11/2003 - support ronan's plea!

7:17pm GMT

Since Ronan's mother, Marie died with Breast Cancer in 1998, Ronan has been supporting several campaigns about cancer awareness.  Now he is supporting Children's Cancer Month in December and the Little Star Appeal.  Ronan has written a letter of support which appear in the Sunday Life newspaper last Sunday (23rd November) and is encouraging you to support the campaign - please take time to read this letter, information on how to support is contained within - thanks!

"I am writing to ask your readers to support Cancer Research N. Ireland Children's Cancer Month, during December.

Now in its fourth year, the month is backed by the UK Children's Cancer Study Group (UKCCSG) and by the National Alliance of Childhood Cancer Parent Organisations (NACCPO)

Every year, about 1450 children aged 0-14 are diagnosed with the disease.

That is one in every 600, but as the country's biggest supporter of research into children's cancers, Cancer Research N. Ireland (part of Cancer Research UK) is dedicated to finding new treatments and improving care.

Thanks to the work of scientists like those supported by Cancer Research N. Ireland, more than seven out of 10 children with cancer are, today, successfully treated and over 80pc of children survive leukaemia, the most common childhood cancer.

There has been so much progress and with your help cancer Research N. Ireland can continue to make great strides?  There's so much more to be done.

Christmas is traditionally a time for giving and that's why Cancer Research N. Ireland launched its Little Star Appeal.

Almost every family in the country will have been touched by cancer at some point in their lives, including my own, which is why I am backing the Appeal, and am asking you to do the same.

Simply pick up the phone and call the Little Star Hotline on 08701 60 20 40 today to pledge a donation.

Together we can save even more young lives.

Happy Christmas

Ronan Keating

On behalf of Cancer Research N. Ireland."

24/11/2003 - turn it on - another uk bonus track?

6:56pm GMT

According to several sources, some people who have bought the 'Turn It On' album have found that the UK bonus track, album track 14 appears to be a different song to the one published on the album!  We're talking about, 'Give You What You Want'!  For some of you it doesn't sound convincing, so we, at Ronan Keating World decided to investigate for ourselves!  Apparently, the people claimed that the different version of this album came from HMV (online and in-store) - so we went down to get ourselves a copy from the local HMV store to see if these claims were true.  We first tried the original copy of the album which does indeed have the correct track 14, 'Give You What You Want' (we know this because we have this copy bought somewhere else).  We observed the total time of the CD and the length of track 14 (3:29s).  But when we tried the copy from the HMV store, the first immediate observation was that the total time of this CD was shorter and that track 14 was shorter as well (3:23s).  Upon playing it, it turns out that track 14 is indeed a completely different track and is not the song, 'Give You What You Want'.  In fact, it has a good beat!  The song doesn't seem to be topical at all and when you hear the lyrics, they are not what you would expect from Ronan!  Since the album liner notes have no credit to what the title of this mysterious track or who wrote it, we're going to call it 'We're Just Getting Started'.  But listening to it, we could see maybe why the track was removed in the last minute as the song does sound really 'cheeky' in the lyrical sense - so we can only assume that the track was replaced on most copies of the album, but not all!!!  Is there anyone else who bought the album from HMV?  What do you think of this tune?  Does anyone know what the proper title of this track is called and who wrote it?  Send us an e-mail and tell us about it, or talk about it on the Forum!

And finally, we have the first half of the album lyrics to the album, 'Turn It On' - click here now to check the lyrics!  We will be putting the last few tracks lyrics plus this mystery track soon!

22/11/2003 - have you turned it on finally?

8:32pm GMT

8:12pm GMT

Ronan has joined ex-Boyzone members, Keith Duffy, Mikey Graham and Stephen Gately to record a tune once again!  But it's not really Boyzone reunited, as these guys are joined by other celebrities including Dubs Aslan, Robbie Keane, Gerry Ryan and also music stars, Mickey Harte, Simon Casey and Mary and Frances Black for a Christmas single!  All these stars have come together to record the Aled Jones 'The Snowman' theme tune, 'Walking In The Air' to raise money for charities, the Irish Autism Alliance and the Solis Project.  The tune has a Pink Floyd mix and was recorded earlier this week at the Temple Bar Music Centre in Ireland.  Where's Shane Lynch you ask?  Well, let's say that he was unable to join the other Boyz!

7:08pm GMT

As many of you know, Ronan will be starring in a movie called 'Guns, Money And Home Cooking' but what does Ronan think of the role?  He told the Daily Record about it: "It's tongue in cheek.  Vinnie [Jones] is in it.  Anna Friel is in it.  I play a young Irish inexperienced gangster.  They came looking for me.  I didn't go to a casting or anything.  I'm s*** scared because I've never acted before.  The first couple of days will be hard work, nerve wracking, but I'm willing to give it a go.  I've read the script and can't say too much about it."  And will Ronan do more movies?  "Future film roles will depend on the outcome of this one."  The movie which will be filmed in Cornwall is due to be shot in January.

20/11/2003 - ronan in a near-death experience

6:58pm GMT

It was really a scary experience, but when Ronan's private Cessna jet was about to make a landing, the jet itself ran into mechanical problems.  The wheels were jammed and Ronan prayed for his life as it was coming down into London's Heathrow Airport (UK).  Fortunately, the pilot managed to pull the plane up so that the wheels came down manually and the jet landed safely.  Ronan has a fear of flying and told about his experience: "I'll be honest, there was a point when I was praying for my life.  It was terrifying.  I'm only just getting over my fear of flying, which I've seen specialist about."  The incident occurred last Sunday night.

17/11/2003 - ro with des and mel

6:57pm GMT

This afternoon, Ronan appeared on Today With Des & Mel (Des O'Connor & Mel Sykes) on ITV1 (UK) and was asked a variety of things.  This included one about topics discussed in some earlier show, Room 101 - they asked Ronan why hangovers were things he didn't like and Ronan replied that he had too many of them!!!  The other was about if he or Boyzone ever had entourages (another thing Ronan dislikes), and Ronan replied that he and Boyzone never ever had entourages!  Next, Des confirmed with Ronan that he once worked in a shoe shop before because Des himself worked in a shoe factory at one time!  And the next topic was about Ronan brand new album 'Turn It On' (which is out today!).  Ronan said that the album was written in Dublin, Ireland over the past 5 months.  He said it is a personal album including songs dedicated to his late mother, Marie ('This Is Your Song') and his wife, Yvonne ('First Time').  Next, Ronan was asked about the Marie Keating Foundation.  He explained about what the foundation was all about and the charity work it was doing including the mobile units set up across Ireland which provide information on breast cancer.  This moved on to the charity walk which he did back in May.  Ronan described that the first week and a half was "hell" but through willpower and a good physio he was able to complete the walk.  Ronan said it was "unbelievable" and he said the "support was incredible".  The next topic was about the forthcoming movie, Ronan was to star in ('Guns, Money and Home Cooking') which also stars Vinnie Jones and Anna Friel.  Des mentioned that Ronan had been looking around for different film roles in the past but nothing suited him until now.  Asked whether he was a goodie or a baddie in this film, Ronan replied that he would be a "good baddie".  Des, confused, said a bit "like Robin Hood?", Ronan said kind of but unlike Robin Hood he was "not giving the money back".  Ronan also mentioned that filming for the new movie would be starting in January next year.  Final topic of discussion rather humorously was about an incident in which Ronan and the rest of the Boyzone lads, had run away from a hotel where they had an outstanding phone bill (read it in Ronan's autobiography, 'Life Is A Rollercoaster'!).  Ronan laughed as he talked about it mentioning that they had to do a runner and told Shane Lynch of Boyzone to throw the bags out of the window so they could get away!!!

To finish things off, Ronan got involved in Des & Mel's show game, 'Spin The Wheel' in which Ronan did exactly that, to enable a caller to win cash prizes before he got on stage to perform his excellent album title track, 'Turn It On Again' from 'Turn It On' which is out now!!!

Ronan on Today with Des & Mel
Meet, Des O'Connor and Melanie Sykes! Ronan gets asked questions on a huge variety of subjects!
One of those topics are about Ronan's new album, 'Turn It On'! ...and Des and Mel take real attention to detail as they look what's on Ronan's album!!!

6:39pm GMT

Ronan has recently been bombarded by death threats from a female stalker.  This female stalker has written letters to Ronan's home in Dublin, Ireland and have contain threats to harm Ronan's family.  It also contains remains of red lipstick left on the letter.  Speaking to The Sun newspaper, Ronan described how frightened he has been over this situation: "These letters started off really nice but over time they have taken a nasty turn and I'm not prepared to risk anything happing, God forbid, to my wife or family.  I normally like getting fan mail and I try to respond to as much as I can.  Most of the stuff I get is great and from normal fans who love my music.  But when the safety of my family comes into question, obviously I have to take action.  Hopefully, this woman can get help."  Ronan has called police to investigate the situation.

6/11/2003 - ronan visits room 101

6:29pm GMT

Did you watch Ronan on Room 101 on BBC2 (UK) last Monday (3rd November)?  Well he was on with interviewer Paul Merton and talked about pet hates.  He discussed issues and wanted to get a few of them off his chest!  A few irritated him included the following: when asked about what he thought about singers who mime, Ronan replied: "There is no excuse for the artist miming."  On the issue of entourages, Ronan had his say: "Some singers actually travel with their own make-up chairs."  When asked about hangovers, Ronan said: "I had been found asleep on the doorstep with a quilt around me."  And one annoyance was rudeness: "Rude people in general annoy me."  It is really nice to see Ronan open and honest - fair play to ya!
