Robert was born Robert John Elias In New York City April 4th 1965. To his father Robert Downey (snr), a screenwriter, director,
and actor, and his mother Elsie Ford, an actress, and singer. They divorced when Robert was 13.
Robert also has an older sister Allyson, a writer born in October 1963.
His 1st stepmother Laura Ernst, a screen writer, died in 1994 from Lou Gehrig's disease. He also had another stepmother Rosemary
Rogers a music producer, and writer.
Robert grew up in many places as a young child living in London, Conneticut, New Mexico, Greenwhich Village, Woodstock NY,
and Los Angeles, California.
When his parents split, his sister stayed with their dad in Woodstock, and Robert moved to New York City with their mum for
2 years. He then spent 2 years with his dad who was in Los Angeles whilst he attended Sante Monica High School, but he dropped
out with his father's permission before graduating, and joined the army at 16 before starring in more of his father's films.
Robert met his first love Sarah Jessica Parker on the set of firstborn when they were both 18. They dated for 7 years between
1984, and 1991.
Robert's claim to faim came when he played Julien, a strung out drug addict in the 1997 film "Less Than Zero".
Robert met Deborah Falconer,and married her in May 1992 in California after dating for6 weeks. September 7th 1993 Their son
Indio was born. Robert, and Deborah separated in 1996, and Robert filed for divorce.
