Northern Territory ~ Kings Canyon

The Northern Territory is Australia at it's most rustic.

Kings Canyon lies 310 km south of Alice Springs and is one of the Outback's most dramatic geological features. It is full of surprises, eerie weathered striped rock dome formations (the lost city) and breathtaking views from the top of the 300m high canyon rim over the surrounding landscape.

The temperature in the Canyon is hot and I do mean hot. 45 Deg C (113 F) at the base and 55 Deg C at the summit (131 F) so take plenty of water when climbing.  By the time you finish the climb your nice cool drinking water will be just about the right temperature to make a cuppa!

We camped overnight in a campsite hundreds of miles from anywhere, literally. The nearest civilisation was Ayers Rock Resort about 5 hours away, very reassuring if you get bitten by something which can kill within hours! When camping in the Outback, if you can forget about everything that could kill you, you
must sleep in swags under the stars, and witness one of the most fantastic sights you will ever see--the Milky-Way with no light pollution what so ever just brilliant!!!!!
