Frequently asked questions
|
| Who are we? |
We are a chamber choir of 24 voices based in North-east Essex. |
| When were we founded? |
We were founded some 40 years ago by the Rev. Peter Elers of Kelvedon. |
| Who are the choir members? |
We draw members from a wide area of Essex and Suffolk. Most
of the present members have been singing together for some years. From amongst
our members we are able to call on a number of soloists. |
| Do we always work as a self-contained group? |
No. We enjoy working with other singers and instrumentalists as the
occasion demands. This allows us to be very flexible in the repertoire we perform. |
| What do we sing? |
The choir performs a broad repertoire from Byrd to Britten and
beyond. It includes early church music; madrigals; folk songs from various
countries in traditional and contemporary arrangements; anthems, motets, cantatas
and excerpts (or whole services) from the catholic and protestant church liturgy;
Victorian ballads; Negro spirituals and "standards" from the big band jazz era.
When the opportunity arises, we are not afraid to tackle large-scale works, such
as the Bach St John Passion and Rossini 's Petit Messe Solennelle. |
| Where do we sing? |
Mostly in the beautiful village churches of Essex and Suffolk. |
| Why do we sing? |
The obvious answer is that we enjoy it, and in doing so, we raise
money for a variety of charities and charitable functions. |
| Do we ever sing outside Essex and Suffolk? |
Yes. The choir has travelled to France on four occasions, performing
concerts and singing the main Eucharist service in Cahors Cathedral. We have
deputised for the resident choir at Ely Cathedral for the weekend services on four
occasions. We have also provided the music for the Annual AMREF and Farm Africa
Christmas Service at St Luke 's Church, Chelsea since 2002.

| How can you hear about our forthcoming concerts? |
You can enrol as a friend of The Kelvedon Singers and
receive advance information about our concert schedule. |
| Could we sing for you? |
Indeed, yes. Maybe you represent a charity, or are organising a music festival.
Perhaps you are raising money for church improvements, or you would just like us to put on a
concert for you. Whatever your reason, just contact us and we
would be delighted to discuss requirements and arrangements. |
| Do we ever have vacancies for new members? |
Very occasionally we do. Click here on "VACANCIES"
and find out whether we have any openings for new choir members. Even if we haven't any
vacancies and yet you are keen to join a group like ours, we should still like to hear from you.
