Rottingdean Village 10 V Lower Bevendean 0

LEAGUE

This was the first game of the new season & right from the start, the red & black attack picked up where they left off last season. This time round though, our attack was even stronger with the inclusion of Richard (ROCKET) Watton up front & Sam Hinchcliffe & Daniel Stapleton in the middle. As soon as Bevendean kick~ off, the rocket pounced on a soft passback & legged it up field only to have his shot saved by the keeper. However, the keeper wasn’t so lucky when (MAD MAZ) Williams buried the rebound in the back of the net.

If anyone thought losing ADAM & ROSSY in pre-season would weaken the~ side, then this performance changed their minds because we were rampant in every department.

Maz & RICHARD were running riot up front, bagging 4 goals each thanks to SMURF & (CLASS ACT) Penny supplying killer crosses from the wings for the strikers to run onto. Bevendean never really got into the game & only managed 1 or 2 half-hearted attempts on our goal. Ladi & class act also added their names to the score sheet with a goal each to round off an outstanding performance.

Well done lads, it was just like watching BRAZIL.

M.O.M The whole team for an excellent display of confident, attacking football.

FALMER FLYERS 3 V ROTTINGDEAN VILLAGE 4

LEAGUE

We went into this match full of confidence after last week’s result. We knew Falmer would give us a fight, but we weren’t expecting them to ~come at us with all guns blazing. Our lads started very sluggish & just could not get into the game, Whenever we got the ball we either kicked it anywhere or gave it back to I the opposition.

But against all odds, we managed to take the lead, which helped to

settle us a bit. Falmer threw everything they had at us & scored 2 quick goals to take a deserved lead into half—time Falmer started the 2nd half more organized than us & were rewarded with another goal. I decided to change our formation from 4—5—1 to 4—4—2 & this seemed to do the trick, because the village started to play a lot better & pulled a goal back. We then netted again to level the score, & were really starting to put pressure on the falmer defense when Sam (SUPERSTAR) Janes was hacked down in the box with a minute to go. The ball was smashed into the back of the net by the (ROO1~T) Watton to give us a last gasp winner & secure the 3 points. Well done boys, not one of our better displays, but we still got the points & that’s what matters.

M.O.M. The (ROCKET) Watton. Battled from start to finish & thoroughly deserved his hat trick.

ROTTINGDEAN VILLAGE 8 V FISHERSGATE FLYERS 2

LEAGUE

After last week’s nail biter against Falmer, we were hoping for a better performance, & boy did we get one. Right from the start the village tore into flyers with a determined look about them. The ROCKET was obsessed with getting goals & it wasn’t long before he found the net, courtesy of a cross from CLASS.ACT on the right wing. After some more superb passing through the middle, the ROCKET scored again & 5 minutes later netted for his hat—trick to take his tally to 10 goals in 3 games. With every man in the side giving 1oo~ it wasn’t long before MAD MAZ got in on the act &~made it 5—0. The village came out for the 2nd half firing on all cylinders & it wasn’t long before we had goal number 6 thanks to CLASS ACT. IT was at this point the lads seemed to slow down, which allowed flyers to get into the game long enough to score 2 goals. This must have shocked the lads back into action because they replied with 2 more goals from SUPERSTAR Sam v.j & Dan Stapleton, this took the score to 8-2 & the village ran out worthy winners. WE~U done everybody, you thoroughly deserved this victory. M.O.M. (THE ROCKET) WATTON. Another exciting display of attacking football.

COUNTY CUP

The odds were against us right from the start in this match. Vie only had 11 men, 3 of our key players were missing, & our opponents were a division 1 side. After protests from both sides, the ref decided the pitch was good enough to play on. Being under strength& playing in 3 inches of mud did not help _the boy’s confidence much, but they still gave it their best shot. The score would have been far greater if it wasn’t for Matt Evans in goal. Although he conceded 4 goals, he saved many more & was undoubtedly man of the match. The whole team worked their socks off &. did well to finish the half only 1 0 down. We started the second half a bit brighter & managed to string a few passes together & went close to scoring a few times. Having no subs took its toll on the lads & they soon tired, which helped Bradbridge, as they put 3 subs on & upped the pace of the game. Our lads could not match this pace & soon we were 2 down & a few minutes later we were stung by 2 quick goals. Broadbridge came at us again & again, but we kept them out with some great defending & goalkeeping until the final whistles Well done lads, even though you lost you kept fighting till the end & never gave up. M.O.M Matt Evans (GOALKEEPER) an excellent performance intense pressure.

5/11/00 BROVE UTD V ROTTINGDEAN VILLAGE U/13’S    LEAGUE

After 3 weeks of not playing we were glad to be back in action again. Despite the weather conditions the village dominated the game from the start & had several chances to score in the first few minutes. The first goal (in my opinion) was the best of the game, Charlie Penny made a great run down the right wing & crossed a lovely ball into the box for MAZ to head home. The brove defenders could not cope with Maz & Richard’s pace & it wasn’t long before we scored again after Richard pounced on a weak pass & sent the defence round in circles before bagging his first of the game. It was at this point the usual happened, the boys went on the rampage & scored goal after goal to take a comfortable lead into halftime. The second half was pretty much the same as the first & halfway through I decided to give Ryan & Paul a rest & send Dan & Smurf on for a run out. By this point in the game the brove players were lucky to even be getting a touch of the ball as our lads were keeping possession with some great passing. With the points now safe, I pulled Maz & Richard back into defence & let Ladi & Louis have a run up front. This tactic worked a treat as Louis gave one of his best performances so far & Ladi scored twice to cap a great: display. We ended up winning 11—0 hat trick to Maz & Richard. Sam, Ladi, 2 each & 1 from Frank Foster on his full league debut. Well done lads, you were brilliant once again.

M.0.M. LADI Yusuf. Once again, the rock of the team.

Rottingdean Colts

HANGLETON  3  ROTTINGDEAN COLTS 2        U 13

The first game of a new season. And a very good start by us. In the first couple of minutes shots by Simon Mitchell & Chris Osborne were saved well by their keeper. Our back 4 Kieran, Simon Miller, Ryan, & James, were doing a fantastic job keeping them out. & On the odd time they did break through they could not get passed Tom who was outstanding in goal. The two central midfield players (Mitch & Basil) were everywhere, supplying shooting & defending. After about 20 minutes James stole the ball off one of their strikers, took the ball just past the halfway & shot for goal. The ball seamed to take ages to come down & when it did GOAL. (I could just here the likes of masers Lineker & Hanson, I think we have just seen goal of the season). About 6 minutes later James received the ball went on a run slid the ball to Mitch bang GOAL. So at halftime we were 2:0 up & I could not believe how well we were playing.

I spoke to James about that goal & he said he did look up & saw the keeper of his line & thought why not have a go. At the start of the second half I told the boys that we would be under a lot of pressure. For the first 10 minutes we carried on just where we left off, with Ozzy & Mitch coming close a couple of times, and a very good strike by Si miller that was saved well by their keeper. Then they scored. The boys started to look a little bit nervous. A lot of pressure from Hangleton, a shot that had goal written all over it, but somehow Mitch got his head to it. More pressure from them & they got the equalizer. Tom was working very hard in goal, but unfortunately with only a couple of minutes left they got the winner. The boys played very very well & were unlucky.

M O M  Simon Mitchell. Good goal, never stopped running, never gave up

ROTTINGDEAN COLTS 3      PEACEHAVEN 2

We got of to a really bad start because just after 2 minutes Peacehaven’s first attack & we went 1:0 down. And thoughts of last year came back to haunt me, when we played them in the cup & they whipped us 14:0. But the boys are better & stronger than last year. We pushed them back & kept them in their half but could not get the ball in the net. We had some really good shots from Ozzy, Chris Hills, Basil, & Mitch. But then Peacehaven broke away again & scored. I just could just not believe our luck. Then for the next 10 or so minutes it was end to end with both goalkeepers playing very well. So at halftime we were 2:0 down. The boys were down a bit as well. But we had a good chat & I made one change, taking Michael off & bringing David on to play up front with Chris hills, & dropping Ozzy into midfield. In the first couple of minutes of the start we should have scored. Chris Hills crossed the ball across the face of the goal & David just missed the ball. (Understandably because it would have been his first touch of the ball) But we kept battling & pressing, & then we got the breakthrough. A good slotted ball through from Mitch to Hills one touch & bang GOAL yes 2:1. This alarmed Peacehaven & they came at us very strong. Stephen in goal was very commanding. With them coming forward it left gaps in midfield. And then it came with a perfect ball from Basil for Ozzy to run onto who kept his cool & slotted the ball past the keeper GOAL 2:2 with about 10 minutes to go. The boys sensed that they could possibly win & really pushed hard. The midfield really worked very very hard. Peacehaven did not give up & pushed our defenders. But we pushed that little bit harder with more determination. And then it came a good solo GOAL from Basil

YES 3:2 with about 3 minutes to go. I tried to stay calm & not panic as we had been in this position in previous games & lost. But I need not have worried because the boys were very positive & kept them in there half. Then the ref blew for full time.

YES YES YES a very good game won. Well-done boys.

M O M. Mark Smith (Basil)& Kieran Watts (chopper) They were both outstanding.
