Why would any self respecting Scot want to live 3,000 miles away from the nearest distillery?
Who are we?
The Saint Andrew's Society of Gibraltar was founded so that ex-patriate Scots and those
with an interest in all things Scottish could have a central point of contact, and could
socialise together. We currently have approximately 200 members of which more than half
regularly attend events.
What does it cost?
Nothing. Nada. Zip. The society holds events throughout the year, most of which make a
small profit.
How do I join?
Ask to be put on the mailing list. A simple e-mail to the Secretary
will get you added to the list of members, and you will receive newsletters through the year
advising you of what events are coming up.
Events? What Events?
Each year the Society holds two specific events, and a number of other fairly random ones.
On the last Saturday in November, we hold an Annual Dinner and Dance in honour of Scotland's
Patron Saint, Saint Andrew.
On the nearest Saturday to Robert Burns' birthday, we hold a Burns Supper
in Gibraltar's Garrison Library.
Otherwise, we hold Quiz Nights, have Family Barbecues at various of Gibraltar's swimming pools,
organise ten-pin bowling evenings, trips to Spanish Bodegas and Treasure Hunts around
Gibraltar's pubs. We are also planning, with any luck, to hold an official whisky tasting evening (as opposed to all the un-official ones)!
