Am interested in your link with the Jones family.  I am descended from Allen Jones and Mary Ann Griffin via their son Joseph who seems to be their eldest child.   Had managed to get as far back as Daniel and Elizabeth Jones - they were living in Dale Stree in the 1841 Census, but couldn't trace the Griffin side.   Believe Daniel's birth is registered at Temple Street Chapel - not Queen Street? Would be pleased to exchange information.

Hello Pat

Sorry for the delay in answering your query.

My sources were primarily a lady in Canada who had researched all my direct descendents "Wilkes" back to 1610. The other info was obtained from visits to Wolverhampton Archives and the internet.

One of my father's grandmothers was Frances Lucy Jones who married a Thomas Massey. Frances birth certificate shows born 22/2/1857 father Allen Jones mother Mary Ann Jones (nee Griffin) residing at Sidney St W'ton with Allen a Gun locksmith journeyman.

I have the marriage certificate of Allen Jones (age 20 - Gun locksmith) and Mary Ann Griffin (age 21- servant) dated 20/6/1854 with Allen from Dale St W'ton and Mary from Carberry St W'ton. Fathers shown as Daniel Jones - Locksmith and William Griffin -Cordwainer.

The 1851 & 1861 census for Carribee(Carberry) St shows Mary's parents William(boot maker) and Frances born Brewood and Chillington respectively + children. It seems in 1851 Mary (age 16) was a house servant at St Johns Sq W'ton to Thomas Addison (Japanner).

The 1851 and 1861 census for Dale St shows Allen's parents Daniel (locksmith) and Elizabeth + various children (Allen was 16 on the 1851 census).

Birth dates for Daniel and Elizabeth are unclear from census but seem to be approx 1798 and 1796 respectively. Both were born in Wolverhampton. I also had a problem identifying Elizabeth's maiden name and had made a  reasonable assumption. The only marriage I could find in W'ton to fit in with their age and the age of children was on 4/Dec/1820 at St Peters Church (witness Boyl Jones - if any help) and showed Elizabeth Stevenson. On IGI children are shown baptised at the same church from a year later. Some of these children fit in with the census info.

Per IGI possible parents for Daniel are James/Elizabeth christened circa 1798 at Queen St Independant Chapel but when I checked a microfiche for this I could not find the entry.

I hope this info is of some help to you and if you require any further clarification or copies of certificates etc let me know.

PS If you feel anything I have said is incorrect please also let me know.

Have been to the records office in Wton and obtained the copy of Daniel's baptism at Temple Street.

Have also obtained copy of James's birth certificate which states his parents are Daniel and  Elizabeth Stevenson - so I think we can confirm that the mother of Daniel was Elizabeth Stevenson.  If you want any of these copies I will exchange them with you.

Sorri, I meant the parents of Allen were definitely Daniel and Elizabeth Stevenson.

The ancestry report uses 'Ahnentafel' numbering. This means that the numbers for a person's parents will be twice as large as that person's number. For example, if a woman's number is 15, her father will be number 30, and her mother will be 31. Her child will be number 7.
