Lewis & Trudy Muller Lundy

My parents came to America in the late 1920s. My father arrived in 1926 and my mother followed in 1927 with my four older siblings. Then four of us were born in America. We were not allowed to speak German, as our father wanted us to be "good Americans". I never took it upon myself to learn German and it was later, after my parents were deceased, when I became interested in family history.

My parents came from VOGTLAND in Saxony. Vogtland is an area, which originally included the eastern part of Thuringia, the western portion of Saxony, a northern part of Bavaria and a western portion of present day Czech Republic. Vogtland has or has had many of their own foods, customs, traditions, dress and dialect-their own culture, as do many parts of Germany. Saxony, or a form of Saxony, has been around for a long time. It was really a fairly stable area compared to some. The boundaries really didn't remain the same over the centuries but there was some form of Saxony there. My mother was born in Bergen and my father was born in Theuma. These are small towns east of Plauen, south of Leipzig.

My parents, Max Otto and Albine Helene Werner Muller, followed others from their area in Saxony when they came to America. I have discovered that some very good friends of our family who preceded my parents to the US are really related to us. My parents didn't know that. I have also discovered that my parents are 10th cousins. They didn't know that.

My husband and I have been able to visit Germany and spent time in Saxony, the land of my ancestors for generations. I met relatives and enjoyed seeing where my ancestors lived for centuries. My father's people came to Saxony from Bavaria in the mid 1800s. Of course, many ancestors of my paternal grandmother have lived in Saxony for a long time. Most of my mother's people have been in Saxony for as far back as there are records for them.

I am really stuck on my father's line. Although I have them back into the 1700s in Bavaria, I would like to go further if there are records. However, MÜLLER is the most common name in Germany so it becomes very confusing sorting them all out.
I have connected with various degrees of cousins through my family history research and I would like to meet more of my relatives. I know that I must have many cousins of whatever degree, in Germany and elsewhere.

I won't list all my ancestral names here at this time, but if you have ancestors from Saxony, PLEASE contact me.
We might be related.
