Scott Nicholls began his speedway career when he left school at the age of sixteen with nine GCSEs and having already carved out the foundations of a career in motorcycling, becoming the British Schoolboy Grasstrack Champion in 1993. He started in speedway a year later with Peterborough in the Second Division, aged 16. But he was an Ipswich asset all along, and he was quickly snapped up by his hometown team, the "Witches" the following year. He is now one of the youngest and most talented riders in the British Elite League, where the worlds top stars do battle. Scott has had success on the international front too. He was first selected to represent his country at senior level in the 1996 World Team Cup Final in Germany. He has also represented his country in test matches against Australia and the USA during the 1997 season, and also against Australia in 1998. The English U21 side was re-established in 1998 and Scott appeared in U21 series against Russia and Scotland. In 1998 Scott became British U21 Champion having previously finished second and third, he became the U21 Champion for the second time in 1999. In 1999 Scott went on to his third appearance in the British senior finals, finishing fourth after a run-off. He qualified from there for the Overseas Final which is part of the world championship qualifiers, he finished second qaulifying for the next round, the Interconntinental Final. Scott finished in Eighth place to go into the final eliminator for entry to the World Speedway Grand Prix Series. Scott has continued to increase his scoring power as well as his international profile by riding in the Swedish, German and Polish leagues in 1999. He has also ridden Speedway or Grasstrack in Latvia, Holland, France and the Czech Republic. Having ridden for Ipswich for 3 seasons Scott signed on loan to the Poole Pirates for 1999 to broaden his speedway experience. But Scott has kept faith with grasstrack as well, he is a top class performer on grass having competed in the British Masters for the past 3 seasons and winning the Astra Champion of Champions event in early 1999. Nicholls is one of British Speedways most vaunted talents with promoters, fellow riders and the press from far and wide tipping him to be a world star in the not too distant future.
