Static Transmissions

Ever notice how when you click on a different unit, the portrait goes fuzzy for a small amount of time, then changes to that portrait? Well I found a really cool effect so that the static portrait stays and it looks as if a broken transmission.

Note: Before you go further, I'd like to notify you of one drawback, it is that the player who needs to see the fuzzy transmission "must" be clicked on a unit (any unit, even if it's not his) at the time of the static transmission for it to work properly.

Now, all you simply need to do is a trigger like this:

PLAYER(S):

Player 1

CONDITION(S):
  • ALWAYS
    Always

    ACTION(S):

  • TRANSMISSION
    Send transmission to current player from "X" at "Y". Play 'Z'. Modify transmission duration: "Set to" "100" milliseconds. Display the following text: " "*.

    * : Leave blank
    X: Any unit
    Y: Any location ('Anywhere' is fine)
    Z: Any .wav file

    Now click ok on the trigger box so it brings you back to the window with the "Actions" tab selected and with all the actions listed. Here's the fun part =) Copy the action you just made as many times as desired as long as you wish the duration of the static transmission to be. (100 millisecs: 1/10 of a second). Try your map out (make sure you click on a unit before the fuzzy transmission takes place) and watch the effect I uncovered one day as the thought came to my mind and as I tested it on my map (whoo, what a run on =).

    Warning: Make sure that the .wav file you select is a really short one (less than 100 millisecs) or else they'll all get bunched up together =] I way to make the .wav blank: Import any wav file, then use it in your single transmission. Go back to the sounds box, delete the wav file. Once this is done, you can go back and copy your transmission as many times as you wish, and there you have it, a transmission without a wav file. =]
