Mom, Why?

There's no one to dedicate it to

How could someone who's loved so much feel unworthy of my love?

How could I have loved her so and not recognized her pain?

How do the ones she left behind get beyond the life they've lost?

How do I forgive the act, when there's no one left to blame?

From where will the answers come, to the questions in my mind?

Will you be in Heaven when I get there in due time?

Was there a way to reach your heart that I couldn't see?

And if I had, would there have been a way to keep you here with me?

Is there any understanding in your death by suicide?

Was everything about your love for me a lie?

What do I tell my children about their Grandma's heart?

Why, if Grandma loved them, would she ever want to part?

In this life, I'll never know how confused you must've been.

I will only know how much it hurts to ask you from within.

I pray that in the world beyond, your soul will rest in peace.

As for those you left alone, the questions never cease.

Silent Prayer

To Casey and Eric, who will never say this prayer.

I remember many nights spent sitting on the stairs,

Holding tight to each others' hands as we said our silent prayers.

"Dear Lord, are you listening? We need your help tonight.

Daddy stumbled in again and Momma picked a fight.

Please make them see their angry words are not falling on deaf ears.

They are taken in and buried deep within our hidden tears.

Will Momma still love Daddy or will she make him go away?

Can she forgive the things he's done? Dear Lord, please let him stay.

Just take the beer away from Dad and give our Mom a happy heart.

Lord, if you can do this, our home won't fall apart.

Please stop the flowing of our tears by answering our prayers,

And take away the reason we are sitting on the stairs."
