SECOND TERM
Second Term was formed in 1998 as a debating forum and pressure group within the British Labour Party. Its founders were formerly members of Labour 2000, an influential network described by the Sunday Times as "Blair's own storm-troopers" and by the Daily Telegraph as "well-connected right wingers".
At the group's launch, Second Term's supporters called for further discussion within the Labour Party over the direction of future policy and signed up to the following objectives:
A fully democratised Labour Party, based on one-member-one-vote.
A modern, written British constitution, including a fully-elected Second Chamber.
Support for the European Single Currency and Britain's entry as soon as is practicable.
Support for an enterprise economy, with lower income taxes and a reformed welfare state.
More green taxes, including road pricing.
