Stop-Motion Puppets based on "Wind in the Willows" So far we have created 2 moles, 2 toads, badger, ratty and a weasel. The puppets range from 4 inchs - 10 inchs tall, which are fully articulated and costumed. The Puppets are made from a combination of foam, wire, latex, p.v.a, beads, many materials and real fur.
Mole started life, being sculpted with plasterline and a lot of creativity and character.
His body is given a structure with wire. Foam is then added to give the character a shape. Das-pronto and other materials are used to give him hands and feet. His head is cast in plaster then molded in Latex. At this stage teeth (if needed) and eyes are
made and painted. Once the head is dried and cleaned up.
The skin is given additional texture or fur. His eyes are made from beads, which when placed in the cleanly cut sockets, latex is added to the back of the bead and eye socket. When the latex is dried,
the bead can be pushed into the socket. which should be held in place with the latex!! The bead, which should by now have a pupil painted over one of the ends of the hole. A pin or needle can be used to alter the position of the eye, when animating the
character.
Costumes are made by hand and are based on what the character is! and naturally does. For an example "TOAD" is given flamboyant and colourfull clothes and this shows how also
lives!!!
Badger is an old character and his clothes are worn and faded. His fur is getting grey and thin, his stature is frail and arched. This is all put into the designs of the characters when designed on paper
Mole wears glasses, because of his eyesight and his clothes are worn and dirty!! His fingers are longer and his face is wrinkled with matted fur.
