Newsletter, Chat, Books, People

Many people have run or helped out SELFS in the past. There's a 'thank you' for them at the end of this page.

SELFS Newsletter, Facebook, Photos and more

The best way to get updates on the site is to join the SELFS Newsletter, which you can do by emailing Yahoo Groups here or going to Yahoo Groups website. The SELFS newsletter comes out monthly and, as well as lots of SELFS related news, contains all manner of gatherings, gigs and other things you may, or may not,  be interested in.

SELFS also has a chat list, which often goes from dead quiet to buzzing, which is the SELFS message board, chat room, suggestion box and what ever else people make it into. Join by emailing here or clicking here. The list is un-moderated but you'll need to be approved before joining in. This is to avoid spammers, sorry about that.

We have a photo group at flick for pictures of SELFS events or people or just shots of a south east London, folklore, fortean or pagan nature. And as with everyone else on the web, we have a Facebook page.

All are welcome to join any or all!

SELFS Distribution

SELFS distributes books, pamphlets and magazines about our interests: paganism, folklore, forteana, high strangeness, radical history and the occult. These can be bought at the SELFS moot at the Spanish Galleon or from Scott , please drop him an email for more details.

Prices do not include any postage. We currently hold:

Deptford Fun City – Neil Gordon-Orr: £2.50

LVG Vampire Chronicles Issue: Slayer Special: £2.75 (with an article by Scott no less).

One Eye Grey Issues 1 & 2: £2.50 each.

SELFS is dis-organised, with a bit of help, by Scott Wood. If you want to know more, wish to give a talk at SELFS, get involved or if you have some red wine, odd comics or tacky paranormal paperbacks you wish to get rid of, then please email Scott.

Scott has thought, written and lectured on the walking dead, sex with aliens, the Angels of Mons and the folklore of liminal times and places such as Midsummer, midday and midnight. He is a member of the Folklore Society and the Fortean Axis of Evil.

As well as running SELFS, Scott has a very sad collection of comics, a passion for cats and a want to finish his novel. He also writes about south east London on the website Transpontinewas runner-up in the Radio 210 science fiction writing competion and 'commended' in the Radio 4 fiction competion for schools (both in 1980) and holds first prize in the Pickled Goods catagory of the 2004 Dog & Bell (Deptford) Pickle contest.

Clare is the south-east London regional contact for the Pagan Federation and a member of the Folklore Society and the Cloud Appreciation Society. She runs the south-east London Pagan Federation email list and helps out a lot at SELFS.

She is seen here perched on one of the magical concrete Sphinx's of Crystal Palace Park who, every Midsummer Eve at midday, leave their plinths and have a pint in the Marquis of Granby in New Cross.

Contact Clare via SELFS.

Rachel Carthy is another one of SELFS filthy assistants and co-member of the Fortean Axis of Evil. Do you think you have lots of books on weird history, aliens, the occult and supernatural creatures? Rachel has twice as many as you.

Rachel lives in south-east London with an undisclosed number of cats.

Priestess of Avalon and organiser of the Tribe of Avalon Jacqui Woodward-Smith (that's her on the left in the purple) helps out lots of people with advice and encouragement, including us at SELFS.

Jack Gale, on the right in the baseball cap, does the same, as well as being our resident Greenwich Mysteries expert. Not seen him for a while but he's out there now, somewhere, discovering new wonders.

This picture was taken on Jack's walk around Greenwich Park in August 2002 which raised £100 for the animal charity the Blue Cross.
