The Owls of Pill doff their toppers to the residents of Pill and Easton in Gordano for their wonderful support in December. Always appreciated for their generosity at local engagements and on Christmas morning collections, they also came up trumps in a festive shopping spree, which put the Owls carol CD top of the parish Christmas charts.
After production costs were met, proceeds from the recording evening in September were enough for 500 discs to be made, which was considered might stretch to cover two to three years sales.
In fact, the first hundred were snapped up in 15 minutes at the Art Exhibition, with the rest, and more, being sold before Christmas Day. Truly amazing!
Combined with the collections during our customary 18-night programme, the end result was a magnificent £11,500 in the bank, to be shared between the Guide Dogs for the Blind Association and the National Eye Research Centre, based at the Bristol Eye Hospital.
Cheques will be presented at the Owls annual dinner on 27 February. The Owls of Pill sincerely thank readers for their continued support of what has long been a lasting and worthwhile local tradition.
The CD will be reprinted next year and - who knows? Calendar Boys - The Movie…..???
Welcome to our site, this is our first effort in creating a web site for the Pill Community Centre, we have also taken the opportunity to incorporate a wider service to include information for the community as a whole.
A Web site would give us the ability to expand the information available and be more up to date with things that are happening.
Being a very new venture we will have to rely on your feedback to improve the look, style and content because I feel sure we will not get it right first time or if we do I shall be very surprised.
The core of the site is based around the facilities of the Community Centre and the rooms we have for hire.
Each of our regular clients have their own pages promoting what they do and what rooms they use each week.
We have a page 'About Us' which lists the volunteers that make up the Pill Community Centre Management Committee, these volunteers look after the day to day running of the Centre for the benefit of the community.
WELL-DESERVED RECOGNITION FOR JOHN On Monday, 8 December, the Community Centre Management Committee joined together to say thank you to John Wallis for his work over the past years in keeping the Community Centre an ongoing proposition for the community. The Mendip Room was officially renamed 'The John Wallis Room' in recognition of John's tireless contribution.
The idea of www.pill-community.org.uk came about after various conversations relating to the problems with finding out information about Pill.
How do I? who do I? or where can I? can often only be answered by knowing someone who knows someone. While this is fine, and for the most part works well, if you don't know the right person to start with you may be out of luck.
It's possible to live here and be unaware of a club, activity, event or issue occurring in Pill which may be of interest to you.
Village notice boards display information and the Pill Paper carries a lot of useful information. But space is limited and may be out of date or superseded by events.
