"Esquivel" is
one arranger who really writes for Stereophonic Sound!
Fronting a 26-piece
orchestra of outstanding musicians,
Esquivel, who
is also heard on piano, did all the arrangements
for the
Randy Van Horne vocal group as well as for the sidemen.
The numbers
are all standards,
and are
performed in a what subdued beguine tempo maintained
by a rhythm
section that includes, in part, two guitars,
timpani, bongos,
conga drums and an organ!
One of his trademarks
has been his imaginative use of vocal groups.
Esquivel
also gives the listener the impression that there are two
pianists
playing. There where no dual tracking or gimmicks
during
his performance: it's all just sheer pianistic magic.

This album, proves
beyond all question that there is an arranger
who, given well-known
standard songs, can take them to their
plus-perfect
place in musical immortality. Esquivel, with his
all incomparable
arranging creativity, has taken such a set of
standards and
projected the songs into the rare atmospheres of
"Infinity in
Sound". By definition, Infinity is that which is
immeasurable,
unbounded or even unlimited. Here, then, is an
album, which
doesn't require copious quantities of liner notes.
Your turntable
& speaker system will allow your ears to judge
that Esquivel
has created not only great things musically, but
