It is impossible for one person to trace all the lines of a family tree, so this online project has a limited scope. That is, I am constructing a map of my (and my wife's) direct ancestors, which includes relatives at each generation out as far as cousins. I have not attempted to trace cousins' descendents from each generation, although I happily accept information contributed from other researchers who have such information, and will consider including it on a case-by-case basis. The timeframe covered by my genresearch stretches from my present day cousins back to ancestors born in the 1700's and 1800's. The Newhooks have been traced back to 1752, Squires to 1790, Harveys to 1812, Murphys to 1850, and Tooles to 1861. Immigrants have been identified for the Newhook, Harvey and Squires families.
The oringinal geographical focus of my research was St.John's, Newfoundland, Canada. This is where most of our families have lived, worked and died. However, my interests have now expanded to include genealogical research in England, particularly Devon, where many of the families concerned emmigrated from. Consult the family histories for particulars about where the principal families have lived.
The following families are the focus of my genealogical research. Some surnames do not appear in the name index, but all are of interest to me, and appear somewhere on the family trees of people in the index.
Contact me if you are doing genealogical research on any of these families or if you have questions about how they fit on my family tree. Submitted information or inquiries can be sent to me by e-mail. All genealogical info should be accompanied by reference to the source of that information. If any submitted information is questionable or unverified, indicate this by following that piece of information by a question mark in parentheses. It is not my intention to follow all branches of each family.

The latest development in my family tree project is a simple drag&drop program which converts GEDCOM files into easy-to-read family tree pages which can be published to the web and navigated by clicking people's names. One of the improvements over the old "name list" is that this program generates a list of every individual in the archive - so if I've entered information on somebody, you'll find their name in the new index.
Please note that at present this is a work in progress and is not yet as complete as the old tree files which can be accessed in the index of names, below. However, the old list is no longer being maintained and the new clickable tree will gradually replace it.

These family histories include (where available) surname origins, first immigrants, country of origin, and details of the lives of principal family members. I am currently compiling histories on the following families...Links will become active as the histories are completed.
- Harvey
- Brocklehurst
- Toole / O'Toole
- Newhook
Now on-line! My intention is to present "representative" pictures of family members, not to present a complete collection of images! Therefore, some pictures which appear "redundant" may be removed as I receive new or better photos. Currently, this collection features pictures from the collection of my mother and my uncle Bob.
Click the album to peruse the pictures. Donations or info regarding existing pictures are welcome!

Memorandum
The "Pronouncing Edition of the Holy Bible" was published in 1892 by the Earle Publishing House of Saint John, NB, and was originally owned by my great-grandfather Richard Harvey. It was passed on to my grandfather, Robert Harvey, by his mother, and contained records of the births, deaths, and marriages in the family. It includes records of the birth of all my grandfather's siblings, as well as his own children (my aunts & uncles). The bible was passed on to my grandfather's oldest son, my uncle Bob, who lent to my aunt Elizabeth, who brought it home to me from PEI in November 1996 after several months of effort on my part in trying to locate it!
As a child, my mother loved reading this book and looking at the pictures and illustrations in it. You'll notice that as the "births" page filled up, the children who were born later wrote their own names and birth dates on the "memorandum" page - sometimes more than once! This huge book is badly in need of repair, so I scanned in the pages containing genealogical information right away - click each of the above headings for a close-up, and contact me if anything important is illegible. I have a detailed and accurate transcription of the content of these pages.
This index is quite extensve, but is no longer being added to. In the near future, it will be replaced by the clickable family tree, currently under construction. Many names appear in the files which are not indexed here, so some searching may be required to find who you're looking for. if all else fails, e-mail me, and I may have info that isn't yet published on this site. Bill Crant also has an excellent index of surnames people in Newfoundland are currently researching - check it out!
