Jane (MARY ANN?) HARVEY
This record may in fact refer to two people, but I have made a leap of faith in assuming that Jane, born in Torbryan in 1815, is the same person as Mary Ann (or Mary Jane), for whom I have records from St. John's, Newfoundland. It is a big leap of faith because none of the St. John's records of Mary Harvey I have come across indicate her age.
Mary may have indeed been Richard E.'s sister, and sister of Jane of Torbryan as well, but baptised somewhere other than Torbryan. When Mary married William Blackler, their children were baptised at the Anglican Cathedral. The mother's name is given as "Mary Ann", not "Mary Jane". Still, I prefer to think that the child baptised "Jane" in Torbryan simply went by the name "Mary" in adulthood - this was not an uncommon occurence.
That Mary was a sibling of Richard Harvey of Torbrian is a matter of family lore, given me by Pearl Benson. As she put it, "Brother and sister married brother and sister", referring to Mary's marriage to the brother of Richard's wife. It is worth noting that Pearl also suggested that Mary's name was in fact "Mary Jane".
If Mary had children prior to William or after Eliza, their baptisms do not appear to be recorded at the Anglican Cathedral.
