ANNE JOSEPH O'TOOLE (COUSENS)

Born: Feb.20, 1886. Godparents Nicholas Toole and Agnes Walsh (St.Patrick's baptism register).
Married: April 20, 1908 (St.Patrick's marriage register).

The St.Patricks birth register lists Anne's mother as "Mary Byrne" of Southside road, and her father as Michael Toole, but the marriage record lists her parents as Michael and Winnifred O'Toole. Two things are apparent: her father changed his surname to O'Toole, and her mother's middle name may have been Mary. The marriage record lists William's parents as William & Lucy Cousens.

The 1921 Census showed Anne and husband William Cousins (note spelling of surname) living on 42 Southside Road. The names of their second child was barely legible and may be incorrect, and my grandmother Caroline Harvey has no recollection of a cousin "Genevieve", who may have died young. There may have been other children as well. The census lists both Anne (born Jan. 1886 - note discrepency with church birth records) and William (born July 1879 in Surrey, England) as Catholic.
