Thanks for reading these so far!!! :-)
December 2, 2004; Thursday
Thanksgiving is over. Now it's time for Christmas!!! :-) I had
fun with the family, though. They left Sunday morning to try and beat
the weather. We already had a couple of inches of snow by then, so the
roads were pretty treacherous. It took them about 10 or 11 hours to
get home that day, when the usual is 7 (I've made it in 6 before). I
had a great time not worry about any homework or watching any lectures over
break, so now I'm going to have to devote all of tomorrow to work on my
project that's due next Tuesday and my homework that's due a week from
today. At least I have a good excuse not to go out and do anything.
I got the hot (on-call) pager for the first time today, so I can't be that
far away from work and a phone. So if I get called in to work, I may
not get to do my homework but at least I'll get to do overtime. I'm
also working on Saturday, so I'll get eight hours of overtime there.
Yay, money!!
So, like I said before, it snowed last weekend. Some friend and I went
sledding on a big hill here in town. It was a lot of fun, even though
it sucked walking back up. My feet were really cold because I had
crappy boots, so I probably would have had more fun if it hadn't be for
that. Afterwards, we all drank hot chocolate (non-alcoholic, it was a
school night!) and watched Gothika. It reminded me a lot of The Sixth
Sense. You'd think there would be some copyright issues there.
Anyway...

My family is about 30 minutes from getting here for Thanskgiving. So
begins the holiday!! It was so hard to work this week, and I'm sure
I'm not the only one that thinks that. Truthfully, I hardly got any
work done. I better get on the ball next week, especially since we
have a new person starting. Plus, one of my coworkers who has been in
Afghanistan for the last several months will be back (although on Monday
he'll just be back to eat lunch with us). So that's cool.
I guess I should finish cleaning up before the family gets here. Once
again, Thanks Stefanie for letting us stay at your house!!!

Sunday was my first ski trip of the season. It was pretty interesting.
First, I picked up my skis at Gart Sports on Saturday night. I thought
I should try the boots in the bindings to check them after the whole fiasco
about getting the bindings put on in the first place, but I figured they
were a professional company and knew what they were doing. So Sunday
Heath and I get in line for the lift and go to put our skis on and...lo and
behold, Gart apparently doesn't know what they're doing!! The boots
stuck out at least 2 inches over the back of the bindings. We went in
to the rental place to get them adjusted, but they said it would be a half
hour before they could even get to them. So they gave us a screwdriver
to see if we could fix it; we couldn't. So the guy was nice enough to
quickly adjust them for free. That alone makes me recommend Copper to
people (after Winter Park, of course). Then the mountain...well, there
was only one trail open that went all the way down and it was a blue, so
there were highly skilled skiers whizzing down and then there was me.
The first time down was ok, even though I took it slow. The second
time down was going good until I got taken out by a snowboarder. I'm
talking skis and me flying through the air. My back still hurts from
that one. After that, I was a little too cautious looking uphill
before I turned, so the third time down the hill took a long time. I
was so frustrated with myself after that. Give me some greens!!!
That was my first time on a blue, and it wasn't good to start out the season
like that. But it was fun, and I'm looking forward to more of the
mountain opening. Winter Park opens November 17th....oh, yeah!!
Takeaway from previous paragraph...never go to Gart Sports.

Tomorrow Stacy and I are going to a singles retreat at church. I'm
hoping it'll help me get involved in the singles group and just meet some
more people my age. Right now I just go to church and go home, I don't
know anyone there. I think it'll be fun. Afterwards, I'm having
a movie night with a bunch of people. And then Sunday...SKI TIME!!!
Copper Mountain opened today, so Heath and I are going to try it out.
Speaking of skiing...I bought my skis at Sniagrab at Gart Sports on
September 17. They gave me a half-off coupon to get the bindings put
on, which I paid for that night, but it wasn't valid until Nov. 1-15.
So yesterday I took them in. Another lady was ahead of me filling out
her paperwork, so they waited on both of us at the same time. The
other lady asked the guy how long it was going to take. He said "Oh,
about two weeks." Both of us about fell over. She wanted hers by
next weekend, but I needed mine this weekend!! We told the guy that,
and he said that there was a "rush" option that would have it done in about
a day or so but cost $15. We both said we wanted that. The guy
had to call over the manager to fill out some paperwork, so when the manager
got there, the first guy asked how long the rush mounting took. The
manager said a week!!! He asked if that was a problem, and the first
guy told him when we needed them by. I was getting ticked off at this
point, so I picked up my receipt, showed him when I bought them and when the
coupon was valid, very angrily, and the manager meanly said, "How does Nov 6
sound?" The first guy said, "That's $15, right?" The manager
scribbled the price out on my paperwork and said, "No, just give it to her."
I was proud of myself for standing up for myself, but I'm not at all
impressed with Gart Sports anymore. It wasn't like I could have had
the bindings put on anytime in the last 1.5 mounts, my coupon was only valid
starting this week. GRRR!!!!
On a happier note...it snowed on the first!!! It was a great way to
start out the month. They kept saying about an inch or so, but we got
about six. It's mostly gone now, but I'm so excited. I'm not too
much of a winter person, but snow means skiing, and I love skiing. Yay!!!
:)

Woohoo!!! Bush won!!! Yesterday was a very tense day and I
couldn't concentrate on much, but it all ended up great. :-) I guess
if he hadn't one, there probably won't be any souls left in purgatory, as
much as I and several other people I know prayed. Thank God we still
have a president who supports life and may be able to tip the scales, or
begin to, on the supreme court. I'll try to write more later, but I'm
going to bed right now. Good night!!!!
