Saturday

8:00 a.m.-up and getting ready for work
9:00-1:00-working. Okay, not really doing much work, but I was there.

After work, I went to the park to catch my son's little league game.  The coach bought the team ice cream, and since his dad couldn't bring him, I took him for ice cream and brought him back to his dad afterwards.

4:00 p.m.ish-home from the ball game and ice cream, time to mow the lawn...

5:30ish-And use the weed trimmer...

All the while starting what would amount to 6 loads worth of washing, drying, folding and putting away of laundry.

I also made my son's bed and tidied up his room...

and l cleaned the upstairs bathroom.

At some point Saturday evening, I realized I had unevenly sunburned from right to left, due mostly to sitting with the sun to my right side during the baseball game. Ouch!

Sunday

I got a new cookbook, and decided to try out a recipe. This is a sort of souffle-type quichey dish. It turned out pretty damn good. I was in such a good mood over my culinary success, I decided to finally put together Jesse's micro machines toy city he got a few months ago. (Okay it was a Christmas present, but read on and you'll see why I put it off for 6 months).

The problem was, Jesse attempted to (without my knowledge) assemble this beast by himself, so by the time I found it all, he had taken EVERYTHING out of the bags and mixed it in with 2 or 3 other unassembled toys.

This is just a small part of what turned out to be NINE different modules to this creation. Read on, it gets better.

I only found 7 out of 9 instructions, half the labels, and several unidentified pieces.

So I'm attempting to assemble this thing the best I can, and as you might imagine it's incredibly frustrating, especially when I kept finding little broken pieces. Here are three I had to glue, with the quarter for scale. Damn, when they say 'Micro Machines', they aren't kidding!

Okay. So, at this point, I am searching and searching for a piece that the best I have to go on is the picture on the box, because it's for a module that doesn't have any instructions. I can't find it, and I'm getting increasingly irritated.

Is it in this box????

Or this one?!?!?

Or this one?!?!?!??????????????

Well, at this point it occured to me that when the directions say 'Adult Assembly Required', what it really means is 'If your kid, who can build a thousand piece Lego Bionicle in under five minutes without the directions can't figure this sonofabitch out, you had better not even ATTEMPT doing this without alcohol'. Time for a beer run!

Well...it's not Yuengling...okay, it ain't even close to Yuengling. But, it's alcoholic and cold, so on with the project!

Properly fortified, I'm making some headway here. It's 60% finished. Now on for the middle, which is the last and of course largest module. I think by this point I was on to my 3rd beer.

I went to the kitchen with yet another piece to glue, and happened to glance at the frog in the tank. He's just lying there in suspended animation (which he sometimes does), so I bump the tank a bit. He's not moving. So now I'm thinking great, the damn thing is dead, on top of everything else today. I give the tank a much LARGER bump, and.......

Thank goodness! He was just playing possum, or whatever it is that frogs do when they're inert. He tried to hide in the glow-in-the-dark plastic greenery, but in true J-Lo style, he couldn't hide his backside. I'm just glad he's alive...I didn't want to deal with that. On to the home stretch!

Finally! After 3 1/2 hours, a beer run and lots of swearing, the finished project. NEVER AGAIN, I tell you, NEVER!

Would you believe this mess is after the completion? Looks like a tornado came through my living room.

Now that the hard stuff is over, I even had time to make a bumper sticker for my car!

As you can see though...in the end the hassle was more than worth the reward. My son (rightfully) thinks I'm a genius, as well as the coolest mom on the block!

So, how did I unwind after such a long and eventful weekend? Well, Sunday evening was the season premiere of Six Feet Under on HBO, so I curled up on the couch with the remote.

And Figaro curled up with me.

I noticed my foot was cold. Hmmmmm.....do you think I need some new slipper-socks?

Well, it's hard to see by the photo, but it's almost midnight--time to set the alarm and begin another long and weary week, all the while wishing the weekend to come quicker. Good night! :-)
