Four documents are published and indexed here: the accounts, 1583–90, of an early blast furnace and forge at Shifnal; the diary of the Independent minister Henry Maurice who lived in Shrewsbury during the summer of 1672. It records his preaching and travels in Shropshire during this time; the registers of 1,213 births in north Shropshire kept 1781–1803 by Thomas Higgins of Wem, a man-midwife; and the frank private diary, 1890–1, of Edward Lawrence, master of Wellington workhouse.
