STonX

STonX on a Linux desktop

STonX is the first ST emulator, that runs on Unix (and Linux of course!) If focuses on GEM based work.

Joystick support is beta and the STonX always runs on full speed (>8MHz). The new version has fullscreen and SVGALIB support.

Hardware requirements:

  • not specified - try modern PC hardware with Linux or another Unix system

Pro STonX

Contra STonX

  • ST emulator for Unix
  • emulation is fast (screen output is not directly linked to the emulation)
  • extended (VDI) graphics mode for native X
  • hard disk emulation support works
  • open source - you can modify and improve the code

  • no GUI
  • you cannot switch disk images while running the emulator
  • windowed view only - no full screen
  • MSA disk images are not supported
  • buggy (Linux-) Joystick support
  • TOS 2.x only
