Ambarawa, Pekalongan and Jatibarang, November 1976.
After spending a day traveling and a day looking around Semerang and seeing no trains at all we hired a car and driver to take us to Ambarawa museum. We were taken to the war museum where B2501, an 0-4-2RT, was plinthed with a coach, but nothing else relating to railways. We were told this was the only museum but we could go to the railway station to have a look. We drove down the hill, turned right, and there before us was a huge field full of steam locomotives, mostly in immaculate condition. In addition another B25 rack tank was in steam, maybe having just arrived with a 2-coach passenger train which was still in the station, and two more were inside the shed. We left when a huge thunderstorm struck. Two days later we took a train from Semerang to Jakarta. At Pekalongan we passed an 0-4-0 tender loco on a passenger train which I recorded in cine film as it departed. Several similar locos were seen in steam at Tegal from a distance as we passed. Several D52's, C28's and a C11 were seen at Cirebon and B5008 was in steam at Jatibarang. A few D52's were seen between there and Jakarta and a number of locomotives were stored at Karawang but it was getting too dark for photography..
