before continuing that those attitudes were found by traditional means.
In other words, we used the computer printings where only the symbols
for low classes of RQD were shown, and with them we traced "de visu" the
cyclographic lines passing by the largest number of lowest weighted RQD
values. However, the surest way to predict the exact location of discontinuity
attitudes is not de visu, but by a free-observer technique. It should
be possible for the computer to search not only for the characters lying on
the cyclographic line of major attitudes but also for those on each side of
such a line, before computing the final result. In that way, insofar as such
predictions are concerned, it will be possible to give an RQD value for any
