The PW-6 "Twin Smyk" ( unofficial name ) The single seat PW-5 Smyk has been joined by a twin seat bigger brother - the PW-6. The PW-6 is designed to compliment the PW-5, and is very much a scaled up version of the "5" and should lead students into the Smyk or other solo machines.
The prototype PW-6, registration SP-P631 first flew on 18th July 1998 from Bemowo airfield, Warsaw, Poland. Type Certification was received on 15.9.00 ( Certificate BG-213). The Type Certificate test flying was done by pilots Jerzy Kedzierski and Maciej Lasek from the airfields at Modlin, Bemowo and Elblag. The initial prototype ( c/n 78.00.00 ) was built by DWLKK of Warsaw. Serial production has now commenced at PZL Swidnik, with customer deliveries now taking place. As at summer 2002 PW-6 gliders can be found operating in Poland, Egypt, Canada, USA, Germany, Austria, New Zealand and Japan. US customers had a chance to inspect the first prototype at Alburqueque, New Mexico in March 2000 - it was shipped over especially for the trade show all the way from Poland. I will try to maintain detailed tables showing PW-6 deliveries as and when customer deliveries take place ( first customer delivery due by November 2000 ). The PW-6 prototype ( SP-P631) undertook a mid European sales tour in late September 2000 - visiting clubs and dealers in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. The prototype received a revised colour scheme in early 2000 - below is photo of it taken in August 2000 at PZL Swidnik
November 2000 - Prototype SP-P631 is now marked up as SP-3631 - the "P" having been removed now that Type Certifcation has been granted. PW-6 Deliveries The first customer deliveries were made to Egypt ( 4 examples ) in October 2000. New Zealand took the next example ( ZK-GXY, registered on 24.1.01 ).
7.01 - Canadian Type Certificate "G-129" gained 8.01 - First customer import to America in 8.01 c/n 78.02.06 7.02 - Second customer import into USA - c/n 78.02.10 7.02 first customer import into Japan
