The Official Opening Recital of the new Digital Organ at St Peter’s will take place at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday 16 February (Shrove Tuesday). The guest organist on this occasion will be Dr. Simon Lindley who is Director of Music at Leeds Parish Church, a post he has held for many years.

Simon Lindley is an eminent figure among church musicians and his recitals are extremely popular. He will be presenting an attractive programme that will appeal to those who may not make a practice of attending organ recitals as well as organ enthusiasts. His recitals are always punctuated by amusing stories which often serve as a background to the piece he is about to play.

This will not be his first visit to St Peter’s: in the 1980’s he brought his choir here to sing Choral Evensong to a large gathering.

It would be wonderful if a similar large gathering could support this important event. I am very confident that those who attend will not be disappointed.

Advance notice is also given of another organ recital to be given on Saturday 10 April. On this day a number of organs will be placed in St Peter’s by Makins Organ Builders (the firm from whom we bought our organ) when visitors (potential purchasers) across the region are expected to visit us. The day will end with a recital on St Peter’s organ by Scott Farrell (Director of Music at Rochester Cathedral).

Full details will be provided at a later date.
