BOBBY
BobbySigned
in the summer of "87" for what was a record fee of Twenty Regal and
Four pints of lager. Big Bobby joined the team along with Skiff in
an audacious swoop on one of the local rivals Bowrie F.C. They were
the first foreigners to play for the club. This was the equivalent
of Ardiles and Villa signing for Spurs. Soon both were accepted by
the fiercely partisan Partick fans of the Rosevale Rangers. Big Bobby
and his assistant Yogi, became part of the famous "Aluminium Curtain"
as the Rosevale defence was known.
Allied with their glittering media careers starring in Off the
Ball's "Paint & Gee'sasay" show which ran for nine years,
they became a formidable pairing on the pitch restoring a touch
of the polish and white spirit that had been missing, coupled with
craftsman like skills at the rolling, they formed the first double
sweeper system..... both being handy with a brush.
