Timsbury into Lords Final following Semi-Final Win

Timsbury won through to play at Lords on 3rd Sept in the Final of the National Village Knockout Cup following victory against Easton & Martyr Worthy.

Mark Sage  Club Captain. Very experienced and shrewd skipper who has raised the level of professionalism within the club both on and off the field. Has already played at Lords with Bath and would love the chance to return with his own village. An extremely aggressive left handed batsman who on his day is capable of destroying any attack and also bowls very effective right arm medium pace. Son of club fixture secretary Martyn.  

After smashing a drive through the covers the skipper was looking forward to a night's kip in his daughters cot!

Lloyd Davies Vice Captain. An extremely gifted and talented sportsman with a rare commitment to his club. Lloyd has just graduated from University and is an extremely prolific high scoring batsman, opening bowler and exceptional fielder who also frequently gives up his time to assist in coaching the clubs youngsters and also assisting in work on the ground etc.  

Nice handbag!

Dave Pippett Opening batsman who has this season been Timsbury's 'Mr Consistent'.An extremely talented cricketer who like his skipper has already played at Lords with Bath where he top scored with 42. Specialises in getting the innings off to a solid start before blossoming into an array of attractive attacking shots. Loves batting.  

Top innings in semi-final from 'Lord Brocket'

Mark Smith A great character who both opens the batting and bowls left arm medium pace with a great deal of guile. On his day with the bat impossible to bowl to and loves to play his shots right from the off. Very difficult to score off with the ball in his hand. Mark is also the club treasurer  

Smudger taking on board vital fluids due to cramp which set in while batting after lasting out the first over.

Darren Wilkins Ex club captain who was at the helm the last time the club made real progress in this competition Darren has moved from opening batsman to the middle order this season with great effect. Left handed batsman who starts slowly but when set can play quality shots to the equal of anyone at the club. A very sharp and effective slip fielder.

Suck their eyes out!

Jerry Thompson A real solid and experienced character who has also played at a higher level as primarily a bowler for Wiltshire in Minor Counties cricket, his experience is invaluable to the side. Jer is very adept at accelerating the scoring rate when necessary and has already hit some enormous sixes in this years competition. Excellent fielder with a safe pair of hands he was twelfth man for the Minor Counties X1 against Australia.

I hit Donald for a boundary

Greg Passingham Greg has talent in abundance and is another who freely gives of his time to help coach youngsters within the club. Very modest personality but he is a top quality fielder and also a very capable wicketkeeper. Bats in the middle order and very technically correct with the ability to score an awful lot of runs. Son of club secretary Mike, Greg is currently training to be a teacher.

Blackthorn is the best cider available

Jez Hare An extremely talented youngster who loves to joke but is ultra competitive and totally focused when in action. Jez who keeps wicket is also a very capable batsman as he has proved more than once in this competition and when given the opportunity has bowled right arm medium pace and taken wickets. Also plays soccer as a goalkeeper at semi professional level and is the son of the village rector.

Loving your length

Neil Hucker Ultra competitive Neil epitomizes the Timsbury team ethic. Always encouraging and effective in the field he is a very capable batsman who can effectively score quick runs and bowls right arm medium pace often when the pressure is on at the business end of the game. Loves to take wickets and also keeps goal for Timsbury football club Neil is without doubt the ideal team player.

Great catch...for the cameras

Stephen Clothier An extremely genuine and honest guy who bowls slow left arm to great effect at crucial times in tight games. He is also capable of giving the ball a real whack at the end of the innings and a proven expert at taking difficult catches one handed. Well respected he gives the team calmness when needed and is living proof that nice guys can prosper in competitive sport.

Semi-Final match winner.  This is the furthest an Over Stowey player has ever reached in the NVC!

Nige Day A real asset to the club both on and off the field Nigel bowls right arm medium pace and can deliver a demon slower ball. Another real character with a great sense of humour, but when on the field totally focused and has delivered the goods for his captain when required on many occasions. An ex goalkeeper who has now turned to refereeing Nigel has an ultra safe pair of hands in the field. Helps run the club bar with his wife Rita and is another tireless worker behind the scenes.

Nosh! Nosh! - More Coaches than the Rovers.

James White An invaluable member of the squad James is an excellent fielder and very capable of scoring runs quickly when needed. Another ex Bath player to have effectively joined the Timsbury ranks. james.jpg (76055 bytes)
