Who am I? Well my name is Tom and I am a Dane living in Copenhagen the Capital of Denmark. My first contact with the Dutch population as an adult was in 1991 when I participated in the 4 days march at Nijmegen for the first time as a Petty Officer in the Navy Home Guard.
Then why does a Dane who
cannot speak or write Dutch or as far as I know has no family
relations interest in this part of History? Because I have always
been interested in military and colonial history. The lesser
known the better and this part of history is less known at least
to the part of the world who cannot speak Dutch I will say.
Of course there is a reason I
choose to research the Tijger Brigade. Since this research is
done in my spare time for my own funds I had to concentrate on a
special area as not to drown myself in information. Then in 2001
I bought a computer and started to surf on the Internet. Here I
met Maria Sutherland a marvellous lady who has a homepage about
her dad who served in 1st
Regiment Stoottroepen of the Tijger Brigade. And believing there
is always one more information to get I told her and today I have
a few pages on her site.
What really got me started
was when I found out the Verbindings Afdeeling Tijger Brigade
hosted a reunion and decided to contact them. And today I believe
I have been in contact with around 80 veterans from different
Tijger units together with my good friend Marianne de Jong who is
daughter of a veteran from 2-6 Regiment Infanterie. And this
homepage I hope will end up giving a good picture of the life of
the Tijger Brigade and supporting arms.
You can help too. If you are a veteran of the Tijger Brigade, an airman or sailor who served in Semarang or a family member who know one I will be grateful for your information. Since I believe every veteran has a story worth hearing. You can contact me on tijgerbrigade@yahoo.dk and I sure will return.
