How Do We Describe Essiac?

The basis of Essiac is a collection of herbs which are integrated together to make the drink that we all commonly know as tea. Traditionally, this would consist of the root from Indian rhubarb, burdock root, elm inner bark (slippery) and also sheep sorrel. Further to this, later recipes also included the addition of red clover, blessed thistle and even watercress; the end product being Flor Essence.

So What Can Do Get From Essiac Tea?

Essiac tea is said to be beneficial in a variety of ways and is even claimed to help with the treatment of cancer. I understand there is actually research being carried to try and substantiate these claims. A nurse from Canada named Rene Caisse discovered Essiac tea and named the tea after her own surname. If you read it backwards you will find that it spells Essiac .

How Do I Make The Tea?

The process for making and preparing the tea is not so difficult and only requires that you follow some simple instructions. It doesn t take long to put together and the ingredients used are minimal. Commonly, Essiac tea is used from time to time for not just the claims about it being able to treat cancer but for general wellbeing and also to help heal additional ailments.

The method of preparing the tea is firstly finding a couple of steel pots which will need to be stainless steel and should measure four gallons and three gallons with a lid. You will need a spatula, a funnel, a fine-mesh double strainer which should all be stainless steel; a minimum of twelve, sixteen ounce glass bottles which can be sealed with air tight caps and additionally you will need to have two gallons of distilled water that is free from sodium.

Ingredients

Take four ounces of powdered slippery elm bark, one ounce of powdered turkey rhubarb, six and a half cups of finely cut burdock root and also sixteen ounces of powdered wild sheep sorrel. Now you need to fully mix up these ingredients and then take the distilled water that is sodium free, put it in the four gallon pot with the lid added and bring to the boil.

Now, take 1 cup of the Essiac mix and stir this in to your pot, remember to put the lid back onto your pot after you ve done this and carry on boiling the pot for approximately another ten minutes. You then turn off your hob and take a scraping instrument to scrape the sides of the pot. Give the formula a good stir, replace the lid back on to the pot and leave it that way for half a day or so. Then switch your hob back on and fully heat for twenty minutes.

The preparation is almost finished and all that needs doing is to turn your hob off and strain the mixture into the other three gallon pot. You will need to give the five gallon pot a good clean now as you will be yet again running the mixture through the strainer and back into the larger pot. After this you can now use your funnel to empty the hot mix into your bottles. Do this right away and remember to secure the caps tightly. Finally Leave the bottles to drop in temperature, ensure the caps are still tight and then refrigerate your newly created Essiac Tea.

Caution

You should always consult your Doctor or other qualified health professional before embarking on any homemade tea venture. Pregnant women in particular should be cautious of such activities.

Professionals and small business/home office workers have tremendous freedom to schedule their days, arrange the furniture, choose the music and take care of themselves at work. Unfortunately, they also have all the responsibilities, make all the decisions, and carry all the burdens. The result is too often we forget to take care of ourselves. Use the advantages you have! The following tips can make the day go easier and help you work smarter, better and healthier.

1. In the morning, limit caffeine to one cup. Or better yet, switch to herbal teas! Start out calm and you re more likely to stay that way through the day.

2. Use up-beat music and humor (I love my daily Far Side calendar!) to get your morning off to a great start.

3. Make sure your first appointment of the day is a great one! Meet a friend for breakfast, greet co-workers with a big smile, schedule a favorite client first thing in the morning. Start the day with some fun!

4. At mid-morning, stand up, stretch and move around, at least for a moment. Take several deep breaths, wave your hands above your head, be silly, dance a jig, move your body!

5. Eat a light lunch of fruits, vegetables and carbohydrates. The traditional soup and salad is great, or a half-sandwich and an apple. Your body needs sustenance, not a heavy load, so lighten up!

6. Take a few minutes during your lunch break to do something totally different: read poetry, call an old friend, take a nap, go for a run. What you do is not as important as getting your mind and body away from your work. Take a real break!

7. During the afternoon, stand up and stretch at least once every hour. Gently arch your back, touch your toes, or touch the sky. Turn your head from side to side, and take some deep cleansing breaths. And while you re at it, smile!

8. When stress and work pile up, take a mini-vacation. Close the door (or go to the restroom, or a broom closet if you have to!) but get alone, close your eyes, and imagine a tropical island, or your favorite picnic spot. Life is good! Breath slowly, and relax.

9. Once a day, do something “extra” call an old client to check in, thank a colleague for a referral, send a note to a friend. Have fun with this. Make it a game to combine business with pleasure and broaden your circle of contacts. (Hint: Send a quick thinking of you” email! People love em!)

10. At the end of the day, clean off your desk, and straighten up the office. The janitor will do the routine stuff, but take pleasure in closing down for the day. Develop a routine that signals the end of the day, it s time to quit, time to go home.

Have you ever heard of the truism jokes are half meant ? If you have, do you believe in it? If you have not, then now, you have read of it and maybe if you read on, you d be able to think of a joke of your own which could be half or full-meant.
I gathered some of the most popular jokes on health and fitness over the Internet and after laughing about them, I thought maybe I could tell something that would prove that these jokes were born out of the sometimes painful and bitter realities of life.
It would really be nice to have a slim and really fit body but not everybody is blessed with such. There are some people, no matter how much food they take, including calories, fats and all, who never gain weight or grow fat. But to those who are blessed with tons of excesses in fats and weight, trimming down is one of the most difficult tasks in the world. Especially if exercise and dieting are alien terms for them, this humorous analysis of how the human body was arranged is just right:
I don t exercise at all. If God had wanted me to touch my toes He would have put them up higher on my body.
Sometimes, in the lowest point of your weight-loss campaign wherein only your weight doesn t go down and the rest, most especially your ego, has dropped down beyond the base, you find ways to console your ultra-bruised and dying ego. And one is to consider that every shape is accepted in the society:
I m in shape. Round is a shape.
And then there s the matter of aging. To some, the question is: why change the course of time? A person s age adds up and along with the increase of the age is the gradual decline of the body. It is just a normal process. Why put pressure on yourself and your failing body? Age, time and fats are ganging up on you, three to one:
The older you get, the tougher it is to lose weight because by then, your body and your fat have become such inseparably good friends.
To choose whether to follow what you think or what you feel is another difficult task. It is an honorable and praiseworthy thought of working to get into shape. But, what would you do if the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak?
Every time I get the urge to exercise, I lie down till the feeling passes.
And then there are some people whose form of exercise is sharpening their wits. They could utter one-liner wisecracks that could make it to the funniest sitcom on TV:
The only exercise you get is jumping to conclusions.
And who said that only the adults are having a hard time being friendly with exercising? Take a trip to a school PE schedule and you might be surprised to hear some outrageous quips coming from the tots that you think are advocates of physical fitness:
My gym teacher told me to touch my toes. I said, “I don t have that kind of relationship with my feet. Can I just wave?”
Excuses are the most popular forms of escape from the campaign towards getting fit and healthy. Here are some excuses that you may have sheepishly used once, twice or maybe more than thrice:
But it was my birthday, so I had to eat the whole cake.
I had to get the bitter taste out of my mouth from eating the so-called dish, so I had an ice cream.
If you eat something and no one sees you eat it, it has no calories.
If you drink a diet soda with a candy bar, the diet soda cancels out the calories in the candy bar.
If you fatten up everyone else around you, then you look thinner.
Only eat things that have been broken into pieces; that way, all the calories fall out.
Chocolate is a vegetable. How, you ask? Chocolate is derived from cacao beans. Bean = vegetable. Sugar is derived from either sugar CANE or sugar BEETS. Both are plants, which places them in the vegetable category. Thus, chocolate is a vegetable.
And there s just the hardheaded approach, the I-really-don t-care-whether-I m-fat-or-slim attitude that you may pronounce as a hopeless case. It s actually very easy to tell, once you hear this line, it s it:
I m not into working out. My philosophy is no pain, no pain.
Getting fit and staying healthy is not a laughable matter or is it? One thing sure is that it isn t an easy task. It involves determination, hard work and some light moments on the side. After all, laughing for a long period can help shake those excess fats off. And even the doctors agree it s the world s best medicine.

Your skin is an amazing organ, because it keeps your insides in, while keeping environmental toxins, pollution, and stressors out. At least when your skin is working like it should. Sometimes, though, your skin can become overly sensitive, and even your normal skin care routine can lead to increased dryness, flaking, and irritation.

What are some reasons for an increase in skin sensitivity? Let s look at some possible causes:

Your genetics. Some people are predisposed to greater sensitivity just because of their particular DNA makeup. This is seen most often in people with eczema (atopic dermatitis) and in those with seborrheic dermatitis.

Your gender. Women are more likely to have sensitive skin compared to men. Skin sensitivity may change over the month, according to changes in hormones related to the menstrual cycle.

Your ethnicity. Some ethnic groups are prone to naturally more sensitive skin.

Your skin care regimen. The ideal skin care regimen will leave your skin soft and smooth. If you use cleansers which are too harsh, your skin will feel dry and taut, opening the door to greater sensitivity.

Your cosmetics. Some cosmetics contain multiple potential skin irritants (fragrance, color, minerals, lanolin, mineral oil), any of which, alone, can lead to skin sensitivity. When combined together, they are even more likely to irritate.

Your diet. What you eat has direct impact on the health and functioning of your skin. If you eat too little fat, your skin will not be able to maintain its normal lipid layer, which will result in dry skin. If you are deficient in any of the skin-boosting vitamins, you can experience greater skin irritation.

So what can you do to combat these six factors and adequately care for your sensitive skin?

Use a shielding lotion. These provide a barrier between your skin and the environment. In essence, they provide the environmental protection your skin would provide for you, if it could.

Do not go for the burn. If you apply something to your skin, and it stings, tingles, or burns, wash it off, immediately. Tingling or burning can further irritate already sensitive skin.

Avoid known skin irritants. Aim to keep your skin care ingredients simple and definable. Look for products which contain about ten or fewer ingredients. Avoid products with too many preservatives.

Apply moisturizer while your skin is still damp. This helps seal in the water from your shower or bath.

Drink up. Be sure to stay well hydrated by drinking plenty of pure, clear water. You can improve your skin sensitivity from the inside out.

Add new products sparingly. Give your skin a chance to get used to anything new, and when you find a regimen that works, stick with it. Too many regimen changes can lead to increased dryness, flaking, and irritation.

While you may not be able to control all the reasons for your sensitive skin, you do have options in how to care for it.

For cancer sufferers, regulating the diet, particularly the sugar intake, is of prime importance in controlling the disease. This article looks at the use of Stevia as a calorie-free sugar substitute.
As many people now recognise, oxygen is cancer s number one enemy. But an enemy of oxygen in the body is refined sugar, which increases acidosis and thereby eliminates oxygen. Refined sugar is the prime energy source for fuelling cancer cells, and it is found in large quantities throughout the modern diet. So is there any wonder that the incidence of cancer in the western world has multiplied many times throughout the past century!
In today s food industry, the presence of sugar is regularly concealed under its many pseudonyms, such as fructose, cane extract, corn syrup solids and so many other contemporary euphemisms. However it is particularly found in many popular soda type drinks, so heavily promoted and avidly consumed by millions around the world.
What about artificial sweeteners like aspartame? Can t they be used instead of sugar? Yes indeed, they are regularly used as a sugar replacement in many diet drinks. I m sure you know which ones they are. But what you might not be aware of is the long-term toxicity of many such products and the damage and illnesses to which they can lead. Evidence is accumulating and perhaps one day it will be sufficient to have them taken off the market.
However, as an alternative to artificial sweeteners, there is one totally natural sugar-substitute readily available today which stands out above all the rest, and that product simply goes by the name of Stevia.
For centuries, the native Americans of Paraguay and Brazil used a species of Stevia, Stevia rebaudiana which they called ka a he e (or “sweet herb”), as a sweetener in yerba mate and medicinal teas for treating conditions such as obesity, high blood pressure, and heartburn. Stevia is a herb belonging to the daisy family, possessing zero calories, zero carbohydrates and a zero glycemic index. Fortunately Stevia has recently gained greater attention with the rise in demand for low-carbohydrate, low-sugar food alternatives. It is also now available as a health food supplement in the USA and Europe.
It was not until 1931 that French chemists isolated the glycosides that give Stevia its sweet taste. These extracts were named steviosides and rebaudiosides. These compounds are around 250-300 times sweeter than sucrose (in the form of ordinary table sugar). Stevia s sweet taste has a slower onset but a longer duration than that of sugar. At high concentration it possesses a bitter and liquorice-like after-taste, which varies depending ipon which glycoside is consumed.
As a sweetening agent Stevia has almost zero calories, in contrast to table sugar that possesses 4.5 calories per gram. Stevia does not significantly alter blood glucose, and so is attractive as a sweetener to diabetics and those on carbohydrate controlled diets.
In the early 1970s, the Japanese began cultivating Stevia as an alternative to artificial sweeteners such as cyclamate and saccharin, suspected carcinogens. Stevia sweeteners have been produced commercially in Japan since 1977 and are widely used in food products, soft drinks, and for table use. Japan currently consumes more Stevia than any other country, accounting for about 40% of the sweetener market.
Stevia is also able to perform a number of other beneficial tasks. For example, it has been shown that it may enhance moods and increase energy levels and mental alertness. The cosmetic industry also employs Stevia in many skin care products, where its topical application has been shown to reduce the appearance of skin blemishes.
Whether you are a cancer sufferer, a diabetic, or simply want to lose weight painlessly, I highly recommend that you add Stevia to your nutritional regime. It is inexpensive and available through many health stores or via the Internet.
