   Twickenham Heathfield

Townswomen’s Guild

 Information Page

The Townswomen have their roots in the Suffragist Movement, which derived in turn from the Kensington Ladies Discussion Group formed in 1865

When women obtained the vote in 1928 Margery Corbett Ashby and others saw the need for an organisation directed towards women living in towns and cities, which would help them to manage their new-found freedom

Twickenham Heathfield Guild was formed in 1958

Twickenham Heathfield Guild meet at the Methodist Hall, Percy Road, Whitton (Middlesex) on the second Tuesday of each month and the meeting starts at 7.30pm There are currently around eighty members and Heathfield is a very active Guild

Heathfield is a member of the South Middlesex Federation of Townswomen's Guilds. There are 16 Guilds in this Federation divided between morning, afternoon and evening Guilds. If you live in the South Middlesex area and would like to know about your nearest Guild please e-mail your location mail@townswomen.co.uk

Heathfield welcomes new members and four members are delegated to ensure that new members are received and hosted at meetings.   Rosemary has been nominated as the Social Visitor to make sure that the friendship and fellowship of the guild is available to members who are unwell and unable to attend guild meetings

We have appointed a Secretary for changes of address, telephone number or email so that we can keep up to date with our membership.  We also have a Welfare Co-Ordinator and on the lighter side we collect recipes

We operate the “Sunshine Bag” charity scheme.  Everyday that the sun shines (Sometimes a rare event in Whitton) members put a one pence coin into a bag.  The bags are collected once a year and the contents are sent to the Princess Alice Hospice.

If you live in any other part of the United Kingdom and would like to know about local Guilds you can drop a line to the above address or visit the national website at:  www.townswomen.org.uk
