I am sure that many Troon Exiles will be interested to know about plans to
purchase the Frying Pan Field at Carwynnen, to re-erect the Quoit
and develop the field as a nature reserve and outdoor education centre. Like
me I am sure many of you will have fond memories of Troon woods, Pendarves
pond etc and it would be good to help and to know that the Frying Pan field
is to be saved as a public resource. Details are on
www.sustrust.co.uk
click on the conservation tab on the left menu.

As part of Imagineers Week, the National Trust
helped arrange an event called Smokin' Chimneys to celebrate Cornwall's mining
heritage - 21
mine chimney stacks could be seen smoking
from a vantage point on top of Carn Brea on June 30th in the evening. Cornwall
Cam has captured some marvelous views of this. (See link in left hand panel).
Did anyone take photos of King Edward mine?

Troon Womens' Institute publication about 'Balmaidens'
is? It was brought out by the WI in 1952, and now cannot be found!!
Replies to troonexiles@lycos.co.uk

 | Question from David Scantlebury and
pals: (see photo number 105 ) Where was the old swimming
pool in Troon, and when did it close?
Thanks to all those who answered - the swimming pool
was behind the Primary school. It opened in 1941 and closed a couple
of years later. We have two photos of the official opening ceremony in
September 1941. Photos>>>>

 | A
quick message for anyone out there
who might be willing to help get the Cornwall Rugby 7s team back out here to
Dubai for the International 7s in November.
The team came out in
2003 for the first time and didn't concede a point in the whole three days
of the tournament. Now they've proved themselves, they will be able to play
on the main pitch alongside England, New Zealand, South Africa and so
on this year so it's only fair that we do everything we can to help.
There was a small but
very noisy collection of Black / Gold supporters in 2003 but we are very
much hoping to improve on that for 2004. There are several companies manned by
Cornishmen out here and we are all clubbing together to offer the team free
accommodation and training facilities in Dubai as well as holding fund
raiser events and persuading our own companies to sponsor.
If anyone has any ideas
or can help get the team out here then please contact me on the following
numbers.
Best regards,
Steve Blackney.
