It’s amazing to find that the village of Troon was able to support so many businesses, although if my memory serves me correctly there was little to no unemployment in those days. I certainly remember in my later teens Holman Bros of Camborne boasted a total workforce of nearly 7000 employees. (One of the largest employers in the South West at that time) Today in more modern times with much better transport facilities there is no longer the need for such a huge amount of businesses that the village boasted. Only 5/6 shops survive as the larger food stores and other equally large shops are easily available to most in nearby towns.
