A seascape of one of
South Devons most prettiest and oldest of sea towns seen from the hills above its
neighbouring Shaldon. It shows the narrow channel through which boats gain access to the shelter of the estuary, or dock at the quayside. The currents are so fast and strong, and the sand bars so treacherous to shipping that all cargo vessels entering or leaving the port are navigated through by Trinity House pilots. A painting full of atmosphere and space. |

A South Devon seascape
viewed from the heights of Oddicombe cliffs, showing the little harbour and its sea
shelled sandy beach, overlooked by the quaint red roofed village of Babbacombe. This hamlet has quite a history. John "Babbacombe" Lee was a notorious historical figure, whilst Oscar Wilde and Edgar Wallace are only two of the famous people who have stayed here. The picture creates a light airy atmosphere, you can almost smell the salt in the air and hear the seagulls cry as the waves splash on the shore. |
