Lock &
Wythe Strike Gold
Top Harrier veterans Les Lock and Dickie Wythe both won Gold at the British Masters Track and Field Championships held on the weekend of July 28th/29th at Alexander Stadium, Birmingham.
Les Lock, now competing in the V55 category, won gold in the 10km track race in an excellent time of 37.13, some 10 seconds ahead of his nearest rival. It made up for his earlier relative disappointment in only achieving bronze at the previous day’s 5000m race where his 17.51 was 16 seconds down on the overall winner. For Les his medals signify that his XC British Masters silver earlier this year was no flash in the pan. He seems to be running as good as ever and if anything the fact that his son Tom is also achieving some good personal bests now, seems to be spurring Les on to greater things!
V50 Dickie Wythe also won Gold at his trademark event of the 3000m steeplechase. Dickie, fresh from representing GB at the recent international match in Belgium, ran 11.41 to win by 11 seconds from his nearest challenger.
Well done Les & Dickie!
