Denver , Kansas (Now Colorado )

Background:

An intelligent child, many would not reckon on Bobby's humble beginnings. His father was a drunk, and his mother brought in the money through prostitution; whore to her own husband. They were some of the founding peoples of Denver , and while that was all very well, the town regarded the Donalds as deadwood. What money the family did get from Eliza's prostitution quickly went into Bobby's father's alcoholism, but every now and again, there would be enough to provide a little extra for Bobby. His continued schooling was a result of this. By age 7, he had shown incredible aptitude with his writing and vocabulary, and while many of the children dropped out to help establish the town of Denver , he stayed on a school, aiming to make a name for himself in the press.

At age 15, he was furthering his education while apprenticing with a local journalist. While his school increased his world knowledge, his mentor worked on his flair, technique, and information-gathering abilities. Bobby's first published piece was an account for a doctor's paper on the effects of alcoholism on social units. It was only a small contribution, but it was published in New York . A courier delivered a copy to the Donald family, which Bobby's father read. He was moved at the wretchedness of his ways, and vowed never to touch a drop again. The Donalds were reforming. Eliza became a dancer and John took up his craft: iron mongering. In but one short year, their world had changed, thanks to Bobby there were now a valued part of the growing town of Denver .

obby continued to go from strength to strength in terms of education and work, which by 17 he was working for the state press. He roved around Kansas for nearly three years. His life was to change with each new person he met, especially when it came to Dusty Dick Johnson.

Professional History:

As a journalist, Donald covered the formation of the State of Colorado , the various mining rushes, and a great number of compassionate issues. His favoured variety of writing was in his diary and of the tales of the people he met on his travels. When Colorado was formed in 1876, he was to meet a man who had travelled there on a vacation. The man was Sheriff Dusty Dick Johnson of Little Bedrock, Utah . They spoke very little on the day, but the day after the ceremonies, in a bar, Donald pressed him for more information on his life. The summary was more than good enough for a book, and Bobby asked the Sheriff if he would do him the honour of allowing him to write his biography. He refused…

For the following year, Bobby sent as many correspondences to Johnson as he could, and his pestering paid off. In the fall of 1877, Bobby Donald said his goodbyes to his parents and set off in a wagon to Little Bedrock, Utah . He spent a year drawing out the details of Johnson's life, but at the beginning of 1879, ‘'Dusty Dick' Johnson' was published. Finding the life at Little Bedrock incredibly interesting, Bobby decided to stay on, and to write his journal so that it could one day be published as a story of one man and one town… Little Bedrock.

Personality:

While confident in his abilities, Bobby is outwardly shy (unless pursuing a story). His shyness has been a thorn in his side when it comes to women, as much as his occupation. He was very attached to his parents, and misses them dearly, writing them often. His immaturity emotionally sometimes leads him to quick, false attachments, but keeps him in awe of the people around him day to day.

Style, Likes and Dislikes:

A smart man, he is nearly always found in his suit. He enjoys a good book, and a day of writing, but not as much as a day of action in town (which is all noted down). He hates being picked on, and despises those who look down on him because he is a writer. He'll drink beer, hard liquor is a bit too much for him.

Skills, Talents and Interests:

A well educated, and accomplished writer, Bobby enjoys current affairs and the evolving landscape around him.
