The Cyndig people came to the Inner Sea about two thousand years ago, arriving by ship from the colder lands to the north. Here they found a fertile land, rich in minerals, and only sparcely populated by a race known as the Kallazin. News of this land travelled quickly, and many Cyndigs sought a new life in the area. At about the same time another race arrived, also by ship, from the lands to the south. These were the Keit folk and they began to settle the southern shore of the Inner Sea.
The original inhabitants of the area, the Kallazin, were driven farther south, as the Cyndigs and Keits flourished, each founding great empires. However, about a thousand years ago, The Great Flood led to the fall of these two empires, and now both the Cyndig and Keit peoples live in the numerous smaller kingdoms scattered around the shores of the Inner Sea.
A few centuries ago both the Cyndig and Keit nations were feudal societies, ruled by kings, lords and barons. A cultural blossoming in the north led to an increase in the number of craftsmen in the Cyndig lands, an increase in power for the mercantile cities and a move away from an agriculturally based economy. The power of the barons has waned, and while they still exist, a more mobile work force has forced them to treat their workers with far greater respect.
